i was just surfing around on the net, talking to some ppl on msn when all of the sudden the computer starts beeping and making weird noises. A blue screen pops up with weird numbers symbols and letters. The computer restarts and here i am. Everything seems to be working fine, checked temps and they are all low so it cant be overheating.

Anyone know what the hell just happend? Im worried that my computer took some damage or might become worse.

:(

I have no idea what happened but that sounds bad.

Deepscan for viruses though.

Time for memory test.
Since we use (Non-ECC) modules, your problem is hopefully isolated and your modules did run into data error. But, if this becomes routine; scan your memory with memory scanner. Memtest86 now costs money but you can always try Windows Memory Diagnostic

Good Luck.

thanks for the help, il take a closer look at that.

I did a virus scan and found one trojan horse and healed it, but i dont think that was the cause.

Could be bad RAM, bad drivers, or bad new software. If it happens again, keep a crash dump to be analysed.

One thing to note if you're going to test your memory is that software memory tests can't be 100% relied upon.

If it fails the test then it's a safe bet that your RAM has gone south. If it passes the test then your RAM might still be bad. I saw some guy posting in a tech forum about a crash problem, saying that his RAM cleared 3 out of 4 passes with no problems (and bear in mind that one pass can take like an hour) - turns out RAM was the source of his problems after all. My own RAM passed a memtest when one stick was very much knocking on death's door.

I'd check viruses (which you already did) and malware.

I'd also check your power and cable connections, is anything loose?

If nothing turns up it very well could have been some data that got corrupt in memory, like Barney said. It would just effect what is running from RAM that moment.

Yeah, do a RAM test, sounds like you got BSODed

Well, the memory itself might be perfectly fine. A 0 became a 1 and the code crashed. That's why businesses like to use ECC memory (error checking & correcting).
