Hi I was recently playing cs 1.6 and wasn't getting anywhere close to the fps I should be getting. Infact I ping better on CS:S like wtf is up with that?
I'm getting a max of 60 fps on cs 1.6 right now when I used to get about 100. Also would you give me what your console commands should look like such as cl_cmdrate and rates and stuff like that? I'm not sure if I fu*ked something up or my graphics card has gone renegade on me. I have a GeForce FX 5200 and I run cs on high detail in Open GL mode at 800x600 res. Also my graphics card settings are all at default. This is really pissing me off and I need help bad!!!
Thanks
Colson

set cl_updaterate 80 , cl_cmdrate 80, rate 2000. As far as I know, these decrease choke and loss, but I'm not sure if they have an effect on FPS.

are you sure you can get 100fps on cs1.6? when i play any HL1 related games the framerate locks at 71 for some reason (as in it will NOT go any higher, and it usually stays at 71), i assume that this is because this is the fps limit for the HL1 engine.

anyway, 60fps compared with 100fps is hardly noticable. it would be much more different if it was 30 compared with 60

Your rates should be set at - 20000/80/80 minimum ideally. (That's rate 20000, cl_cmdrate 80, cl_updaterate 80 in console). Rates don't really have anything to do with FPS though.

If you want 100 fps, try the following:

Type fps_max 100 in console. This is the HL engines FPS limiter, which is by standard limited to 70 (I think?). It doesn't go above 100 though.
Make sure you have Vsync (Vertical Sync) switched off. This lets games render as fast as the engine allows, rather than limiting it to the refresh rate of the current screen mode (which in OpenGL games is usually 60). I'm not sure where Vsync is located on an Nvidia card, but on my ATI one I can find it in Control Panel > Display > Settings > 'Advanced' button > '3D' tab. Should say 'Wait for vertical sync' or something along those lines.

If you're still not getting 100fps gimme a shout.

whats so bad about 60fps and i thought 60 fps was the locked fps in 1.6

Yeah, anything under 40 may be consider annoying, but 60 is the perfect benchmark fps.

It just bugs me cause I thought I used to get more. Maybe I was looking at the wrong thing when I was looking it up. But I have this thing where the models and movement of the game such as ppl running, shooting, and grenades floating through the air are laggy. I know you can fix it with a console command but I have forgotten what it is. Does anyone know cause I would greatly appreciate it.
