Putfile Says Goodbye To Singapore

At dawn on December 2nd 2005, Singapore hanged a citizen of Australia, despite a plea for clemency from the United Nations. Whilst Putfile is not a human rights campaigning organization, we believe that if a country must have the death penalty, there is no need for it be barbaric. It is enough of a punishment, and a deterrent, to take someone's life in a painless manner, without having to be barbaric about it. Putfile prefers to not continue to provide our free uploading service to a country that executes prisoners by hanging, a method of execution which can take up to six minutes to painfully execute the victim.

For this reason, we are at this time terminating all service to users from Singapore. We shall be happy to restore service following any positive move from the government of Singapore towards abolition of hanging as an execution method.

Goodbye Singapore,

Putfile.
*cough* electric chair *cough*

Wow, thats actually kind of interesting. Watch, the US will be next for the invasion of iraq.:dozey:

:/ why would they punish singapore citizens for having a crappy government?

Uhhhh but the US gave Freedom to Millions in Iraq and freed them from the Tyranny of Saddam at the expense of our troops...... shouldnt Putfile reward the US?

I doubt we use the electric chair anymore. In any case it's much shorter and less painful. EDIT: the large majority of executions in the states are done by a painless lethal injection. The only way that prisoners get electrocuted is if they request it (and this can only be done in certain states)

Okay dude, that's just flame-baiting. You kno very well that what you said is completely subjective and has nothing to do with the topic at hand.

Please everyone, ignore his post. we don't need to argue about this in here.

Thats ridiculous, just because Singapore's goverment is ran by prats the citizen don't have access to putfile?

"We shall be happy to restore service following any positive move from the government of Singapore towards abolition of hanging as an execution method."

Ha, they goverment has been persuaded. They need that extra site!

Well I suppose it's pufile's way of protesting. It's kind of like a strike, harming the consumers/citizens in order to make the government take notice.
Though I doubt it will have much impact in this case, it is quite symbolic.

Uh oh.. Now, they have to find some other form of uploading.. Wow.. That is so tough..

They have to be kidding... Why the heck are they punishing the whole population because the government's an asshole? Thank god the US government doesn't follow their logic, or they'd be nuking the whole of Iraq and killing civilians indiscriminately just because they had Saddam for their leader.

And why Singapore anyway? There are tons of other countries out there with far worse human rights records. Why not ban China? Syria? Iran? Myanmar? North Korea? They just don't care when thousands of poverty-stricken people from third world countries get tortured to death by their governments, in far, far worse ways than hanging. Then one aussie dies and suddenly it's OMG sanction. If that's not ****ing racism I don't know what is.

Do they think the media really cares about Nguyen? All they want are the ****ing ratings, and Another obscure poor person from Another obscure poor third world country was tortured to death by Another obscure poor government doesn't make headlines. Then suddenly it's an aussie and everyone's up in arms. It really makes me sick that everyone's buying into this media bullshit.

My thoughts exactly. This seems like more of an advertisement than anything. "Putfile - the site with morals!"

They should do the same to the USA and the UK and most countries, in fact all countrys except venusala(sp?) and irealand and the Soviet Union.

edit:

Oh the irony.

To make their citizens aware of the incident and what their government has done and hopefully a few will move into actions to demand a change. At that time the people who stand up against the government will either be shot or stabbed with a bayonet...or ironically hung.

>__> yeah sure is lucky the US doesn't kill civilians in iraq.

A lot of you miss the piont. Putfile is intending a good thing here. They want the population to fight to remove hangings. It might not be much, but that doesn't mean they shouldn't do it :\ They might start a trend. If more online services keep doing this, then it will be a greater and greater push for the population to protest to the government. I think you guys need to think these things through before shooting it down :|

Go ask a Soldier that served in Iraq, I have 3 times.

That's NOT what the media would want you to believe. In fact your particular statement about us only killing the civilians has been fed to you by the mdia reporting how horrible the civilians are over there. It is really bad with electricity, water, phones, freedom, not being tortured and oppressed. We are awful for bringing them that.

Please, if you want to argue this any further go to the politics. I only represented the other side here so this thread remains neutral. Now don't post any biased politics in a thread like this because it will derail it.

You vegitarians are eating the rainforest.

Okay.

"When I first got here, I felt like I could actually do some good for the Iraqi people," Sgt. 1st Class Joseph Barker said. But the last six months had hardened him, he said. "We're not going to change the Iraqis. I don't care how many halal (Muslim) meals we give out."

"Morale is a roller coaster," said Lt. Rusten Currie, who has spent 10 months in Iraq. "We were all idealistic to begin with, wanting to find Osama bin Laden and (Abu Musab al-) Zarqawi, and bring them to justice — whatever that means. Now we just want to go home."

During this bloody fall, Maj. Robert Blessing, the 1-184 chaplain at Camp Falcon, talked to soldiers who were dealing with flashbacks and nightmares of mangled bodies. The official title of these sessions: "critical event debriefings."

"So many deaths, so many wounds," said the 47-year-old Blessing, his voice thickening with repressed tears. "Supposedly it's peacekeeping, but it's a war."

Staff Sgt. Camilo Mejia, a Nicaraguan immigrant, refused to return to Iraq from leave, saying, "This is an oil-driven war, and I don't think any soldier signs up to fight for oil. I did not sign up for the military to go halfway around the world to be an instrument of oppression. We were all lied to when we were told we were looking for weapons of mass destruction or we were going to fight terrorism."

This info is useless without a source

I didn't think even you were capable of such a dirty trick as creating an entire fake site in an attempt to win an argument in which even you know you are wrong

You'd be surprised at the foul levels of depravity TheSomeone would sink to. :O Like, this one time he grabbed this kitten out of the hands of an orphan, and then started eating the kitten like a submarine sandwich in front of the orphan.

To persuade the child that sticking a fork in an electrical socket would have absolutely no affect :O

In hindsight, Thesomeone doesn't exactly have the best planning ability. If he had eaten the kitten like a taco (not this again), the plan may have come to fruition.

Kitten taco... hm...

That will work if putfile don't let Singaporeans access there website without a proxy then Singapore is bound to make a big decision like that.

Nation blocking FTW!

Maybe this should be in the politics forum?
