Ok, so I installed ep 1 fine..then when I go to run it it says i needed to update my card. (ati radeon 9600 pro) so I go do that (i get some weird catalyst thingy) and I restart my pc blah blah blah.

So I go to run the game everything is working fine...until I press F6 to quick save. That's when the game ****ing freezes and keeps playing an annoying sound loop over and over and over. I can't even alt+tab out of this, I have to restart my pc manually.

After I run the game again...the ****ing thing Freezes AGAIN but this time right when alyx sees you for the first time.

Then I have to restart it AGAIN!$@$ I finally run the game, and it FREEZES AGAIN!$@$@$!$!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! this time at the part where dog is freeing you out of the rubble.

Please, help me...like I'm going to explode, I;'m sick of HL2 ****ING FREEZING ALL THE TIME LIKE WHAT THE ****!!!

My specs:
P4...2.8 GHZ...1GB RAM..ATI RADEON 9600 PRO

Bios Updated?
Soundcard updated?
Do a fresh install of the Vid Card drivers and don't just overwrite the old ones.
Check the GCF's.
Bang head against wall until problem is solved and you care more about the bleeding than the HL2 problem.

^^ Bios updated? What does that mean (sorry i suck with computers)

Also what are GCF's?

...god i feel stupid and helpless..somebody please help me....is there an update for episode 1 maybe?

OK i verified the game cache to see if that did anything..but sadly it didn't.

It keeps freezing at the moment Alyx sees gordon and says "OH MY GO-" then it goes on a sound loop and the game freezes!!

I honestly am like going to cry.

I went into the audio thing and turned the accelaration down to standard...i went back into the game and it started looping over but this time right when teh VORTS touch ALYX...this has happened twice...i seriously don't know what's going on...any help is EXTREMELY APPRECIATED.

I get this a lot too, on my Radeon 9800 Pro. I get it a lot less after having improved ventilation and changing my power supply. Basically, it turned out that it was simply the case that Episode One taxes my PC far too much. The main culprit is HDR, since with it off I'd get a single crash in a playthrough versus five crashes in every chapter.

Disable everything Symnatec relaed via Ctrl+Alt+Del

Yep your anti-virus is fouling up the game...

Silly antivirus, tricks are for kids.

(Almost at 1k posts!)

Try reinstalling AntiVirus maybe, I dunno, that MIGHT help. (Not sarcasm, guessing)

OK...it finally WORKS!!#

I did the -nousound thing, and it got past the intro...then i quit the game, went back this time WITH the sound on..and it just worked.

I'd like to thank everyone who helped. THANK YOU! :D

POST COUNT RESET!
Just kidding.
But yeah, your antivirus hates you.

My Anti-Virus loves me...then again, I use AVG..

Yes, I agree AVG is one of the best anti-virus software programs I've seen. It never conflicts with any games (unless it is updating itself, but that only lasts about 30 sec)

I have to clean boot to play this game cause Norton hates me and conflicts with everything.
