X-box git needs help please LH2 genii..pleease!!!

Okay,
Sorry and all that as is customary in these dens of madness, but I've got the X-Box version of Half Life 2 kicking out of the widescreen in the lounge.
It's great.
Route 17.
I'm wandering around the pier like a C**t, I can't get into the crane!
There's no ladders, I can't get over the gates at the end of the pier, even if I stack all the bloody boxes.
I keep wandering around the beach, looking for a way into the crane. My buggy is parked under the crane, ready to be hoisted....but please someone help me....I've been searching the net for some way to get into that bloody crane.
Surely this is a bug in the X-Box version no ????
Any advice would be most, most gratefully recieved.

As you approach the crane, looking directly at it, there are two ladders to your right hand side, one is an access to the beach floor, and the other is on the crane for access.

This sounds strange, maybe it is a bug. But there is definetly a ladder.

When you get in, just have some fun with the crane

you have to go up the walkway beside the thumper there is a ladder onto the upper level behind the small building there
go along the pier and down to the crane
the ladder should be facing the beach

Thanks John, I'll try this, although there are no ladders around the concrete base of the crane - just some square shapes with (badly drawn) rings in them.
'm still thinking this is maybe a bug.....

Oh, haven't you gone up that pier yet?

If you're near the concrete base, you should see some kind of pier to your right. Go on it and continue your way.

There's a Combine APC near there too, I think.

I remember some bug in the PC version where a wheel necessary to open a certain gate disappeared, although that might have been a hoax. Maybe this is something similar?

If not, you might be just looking in the wrong place for the ladder. Near the thumper there's some wooden ramps leading up to a higher level with a shed-type building. Behind that there's a ladder leading up to a walkway/pier. Walk along that and to the crane - the ladder up to the crane's cab should be on the right as you approach it. There's no ladder from the crane down to the beach until you release the lever to drop it down (and I don't even know why that ladder exists, never used it myself).
