Back in the days (when I was 12, a very long time ago)I used to play F-19 stealth fighter. It was a great game and I had lots of fun. The other day I was looking for a flightsim that resembles F-19, and I came across this space sim wich gets lots of praise from sites like gamespy.

The game is supposed to be a giant space sand box where you can do pretty much whatever you want, like building a space fleet or a giant space trade corporation. It's supposed to be the most versatile space game since elite.

Has anyone played this game and how was it? Was it as good for you as it was for X2: The threat?

I have it and it's a pretty good game. It's not the kind you'd jump into for 5 minutes though, and you'll be wanting an analog joypad or a joystick. A joypad will probably let you navigate the menus faster.

It has some problems such as very crappy cutscenes with horrible animation. The good thing is that you don't even have to follow the story hence letting you skip all the cutscenes. I think some of the tutorial missions are also bugged and incompletable.

You can trade goods between sectors to make more money to buy more ships, and these ships can be controlled remotely and sent away to trade on their own. Eventually you can buy your own stations then place them in whatever sector you want. There are also a good number of upgrades that you can buy for your ships including scanners that give you information on prices of goods in the sector, and bigger cargo holds etc etc.

I recommend doing the story until you get the old trading ship for free, then just go away and do whatever you want.

I think there's demo somewhere, go take a look at Fileplanet of FileFront.

I also have it and it seems pretty cool. Reminds me of Tachyon: The Fringe. Another awesome space sim.

I looked for a demo and all I found was a "rolling demo" wich is just a bunch of in game cut scenes. I couldn't find an actual (playable) demo. The rolling movie thing looks nice though. You can find it here: http://www.gamershell.com/download_3145.shtml

I heard about the story being crappy. But I remember games like wing commander or x-wing wich for the time had ok cutscenes, but - come on - they were still awfull. It didn't stop the games to still be fun. :cat:

aside from being made badly [the graphics are ok, but aren't optimized, at all and there are some bugs] it's a great game.

I'm not a big fan of X2 The Threat. I prefer Freelancer. More polish, better controls, but less depth.

I got the game with my 6600GT when I ordered it. Never installed it though so I'll have to try it one day.
