I've have a few games on my Xbox 360 that are absolutely garbage. I mean Alone In The Dark and Turning Point specifically. AITD was totally garbage, shitty controls and the worst combat I've ever seen (close your eyes to find the weak spot!) yet I beat the game for the sole purpose of getting all 1000 points (very easy achievements).

However, Turning Point has a few singleplayer achievements, but a lot more multiplayer achievements. Anybody who has played TP knows how ridiculously bad it is. Slow controls, guns sound shitty, half the time you can't find where your objective is. The multiplayer is even worse, the maps are terribly small and really consist of running up and down stairs in a circle. Almost nobody plays it online either, yet there is an achievement getting 2500 kills in ranked mode.

COD4 was a great game (even though Samon will say differently) and the multiplayer is still fun, yet all the achievements are made for the Singleplayer campaign (to encourage people to play the campaign I guess?)

My problem, why do game developers focus multiplayer achievements/trophies when the MP modes are so underdeveloped are remarkably bad?

Heh, I made a thread very similar to this a few months ago.

MP achievements are generally AWFUL, even in games where the MP is good.

you ARE an achievement whore.

that being said, i really wish some developers would put more effort into their achievements; specifically for MP
it would be nice to see more that encourage the player to do something special, something that will really stand out and feel like it's been earned
and i'm not talking about stupid shit like getting a million kills where only .000001% of the population will ever get it...

Achievements always seemed a bit silly to me, but I've never been the type to 100% games anyways. For the obsessive compulsive gamer I can see them being an absolute wet dream. They aren't particularly offensive unless they pop up during tense atmospheric moments, absolutely shattering immersion.

Also, this.

although i think that some people spend far too much time and effort (and money, apparently) trying to get as many achievements as possible, i still think that they can breath new life into old games and provide a challenge for people looking to extend the lives of games that they love

I paid good money for it, and I was gonna make the most of my money.
I personally think that there shouldn't be any MP achievements unless the game is MP only, since MP achievements rely far too much on unreliable things beyond your control, rather than on your skill.

Yes, Achievements and Trophies are stupid, but for people with OCD, like myself, they're not just stupid, they're nightmares, since we have a very hard time controlling our obsessive sides.

I rented this game just to do that, I do like getting achievements, some are actually fun to get, i'm such a whore though, I have a score of 22,000.
I wouldn't really call that whore, I know several guy with gamerscores around 70,000, bloody insane.

Well lucky for me, I have my achievement whoring fairly under control, I only do achievements that I find fun(i.e. not grindish shit like get 200 headshots or play 250 ranked matches).:)

I'm currently at about 26,000 GP on XBL and Lvl 4 on PSN but I really don't play games for Achievements all the time. Some games like FFVII I'm playing for the first time on my PSP and I don't even get Achievement points but who needs them?? Also in Episode 2, I'm just hoping to get the gnome into the rocket at the end but hes so damn cute

I think I have around 16,000 or 17,000, which isn't really a lot when I think of the fact that I own 41 retail XB360 games(And hence, if I maxed'em all out, I'd have a gamerscore of 41,000).

As a result of not playing often I only have 1000 gamerscore points.

I started a dickhat discussion.

-20 points if you get this reference.

I have zero points but I've been drinking milk.
