X800XL Silentpipe 80*C +

I've encoutered some really high temperatures on my newly bought Gigabyte X800XL Silentpipe, it uses some passive heat pipe stuff which should be good but it just isnt. The idle temp is about 47*C and full load is 80*C. My X800PRO was only 71*C on full load.

Id love some tips of what i could do to get it back to 70*C or less of course

EDIT: change of cooler is an good option but then there wont be any warrianty left etc, i was hoping there would be another way to make it cooler. My case temp is around 32*C

Dude, you need to get cooler air into your case firstly. Secondly idle temp is 47C and load is 80? That sounds really weird, how hot does your cpu get? My X800 Pro idles at about 44-45C then full load about 47-49C, so something must be stopping your air flow.

get hold of a vantec fan mount and a stealth fan (Pfrom vantec) and jsut blow that on your card, if u get the 120mm one its silent enough and that shold keep ur VC fine

The airflow in your case is what'll make or break passive cooling systems.

Well, i have an Antec Performance Plus 1000AMG. Possibility to connect 2 fans on the back and 2 on the front, also one on the window. I have 2 on the back and one on the window very near to the gfx card, all 3 are blowing out. My CPU temp is 50*C on idle and 60C*+ in games, systemp 31*C.

I know X800XL cards get really hot, some people with 6600GT Siltenpipe got their cards to 100*C and over :O

Try having the one on the window blowing in. Might help a bit. Just unscrew it and turn it around and screw it back on.

LOL, dude, you need to get a decent case flow and a proper GPU cooler fast, in my thermaltake tsunami i have 2 120mm fans and an Arctic Silencer 5 on my x800gto2. i have overcocked my GPU core/memory from 400/490MHz to 540/590MHz and my idle temperature is 28/29 degrees, my max temp after an hour or two of HL2 is ~46 degrees

oh yeah, the Silencer is just that, absolutely silent, as it never spins up more than about 55%

exactly, even one fan in the back of the case will lower the temps considerably.

2 slow rpm 120mm fans in a decent case, an artic silencer and a decent CPU heatsink = near silent computer and case temps that don't ever see 50:smoking:

I am going against the common opinion here that your temps are too hot and say that they are fine, you really can expect low temps from a passive cooling system anyway. I mean it's hot but not that hot, x800s with fans get up to 78+ no probs, gpus get much hotter than cpus. If your system temp was ~40 plus then I'd be happy to say you need better airflow but it's 31 which is fine. What CPU do you have?

Take the side of your case and shoot a fan into your case while you're playing. Your card is going to burn up from that heat....

If you reach 96C with no artifacts it's starting to sound like the temp sensor is off in its measurements.

For a passive cooling system you obviously want to have good case airflow. Passive cooling relies on releasing the heat in the vicinity (instead of blowing it away). Without good ventilation it won't have any cold air to release its warmth into. It's strange that with all the fans in your case you still get a lot of heat. Is your PC right next to the heating/radiator or something?

I'd say try what disturbed says with a standard room-type fan blowing into the case and see what the temps do.

Well ATI claims that 100+ C* is not too hot, most people with Silentpipe cooling get these temperatures, i going to buy an ATI Silencer 5 next week.

You know 97C is well over 200 degrees fahernheit? That isn't good.
