I just recently installed my new ATI X850 xt pe (agp) and I'm very happy with it. However...when I first start up my comp...the cards cooling fan just goes full throttle for 10 - 20 seconds before going to normal. So, my question is should it be something to worry about...or is this normal for this card?

all computers do that with fans its not a problem

The newer cards need the fan to go faster to keep it cool while running in 3D mode. It can slow the fan down in 2D mode though. The thing is it probably doesn't know what mode it's in until it hits Windows. So it goes full speed.

I have hardware monitoring though my board for my CPU fan and it does the same thing.

I have the same card. It's just booting up.

I wouldn't worry about it, its probably just the initial startup setting which it will turn the fan on full until it checks the temp to adjust the speed of the fan accordingly. I have also heard of this on some pc's doing the same with temp controlled cpu fans.

exactly what i thought

My X850 XT PE (PCI-e) didnt do that when i started my pc up. But thats probably because of a dodgey fan (it died on friday). I'll see if mine does it when i get my replacement.

Got my X850 XT PE today. When i booted up my pc i heard a fan speed up that i never used to hear. So i guess its normal :)

It is common with some of the high end/newer cards. The drivers include a fan speed control, which is only operating when windows has loaded, because until then the drivers have not loaded up. So when windows starts, the drivers start up and the fan speed control kicks in, realises the fan doesn't need to be going that fast, and reduces the fan speed
