Well, while playing CSS tonight ATi Catalyst Control Centre threw an error in my face saying my graphics card was overheating and that is was going to underclock itself. I open up the case to find, much to my surprise, that the fan wasn't spinning on my X850's cooling (artic cooling system).

So i checked i closed the game and the tempretures fell. I open up the game again and wondered if the fan would turn itself back on or something. Loaded up the stress test, nothing. The fan didnt move one bit, and the tempreture soared to 80 degree and was rising constantly. I shut the game off before it could go any higher.

Now. Is my cooling dead? I'm thinking yes. And if it is, i'll just send it back and get a 7800 GTX for cheaper then what i brought my X850.

All help is greatly appreciated.

I'm really pissed off about this :(

No need to get a new card. Either RMA it or just buy another cooler for it, its just the fan after all.

When i said get a new card, i meant RMA this one, and just get a new card in its place.
I can get 7800 GTX's for cheaper then what i paid for this (i brought this just over a month ago) so i might ask them to send me one of them in its place.

Are you within a return policy? Otherwise you would be RMAing to ATI for warrenty. Unless you bought a warrenty plan or something.

My dad just said we can still send it back to overclockers.co.uk (where i brought it from). So yeah, it's still within the return policy.

I'll get all the returns forms sorted out tomorrow.

I'll ask them to replace my x850 (:|) with a 7800 GTX (seeing as its the same price) even though i do prefer ATi over Nvidia, Nvidia do have the better cards at the moment. i would really like to wait for ATi's new cards, but i can't wait that long without a graphics card :(

EDIT: Thanks for the replies, guys :)

get that 7800gtx then, that would be sweet for you to get a better card for nothing

umm did u try restarting your computer or try to move the fan yourself u know it could be jammed or something

Yep, i tried restarting, i tried giving the fan a nudge. Nothing.
I know i get a better card for free, but it means i can't use my computer for a while, oh well :(
