Gamespot just released an article stating what the 360 elite would be. Link here
Hardware-wise, Penello said the Xbox 360 Elite has the same disc drive and processors as "current models." He also confirmed it would not have an internal HD-DVD drive, as some had suspected. "We don't want to segment the user base," he told GameSpot. He also confirmed that the external Xbox 360 HD-DVD drive would not be available in the Elite's black finish for the foreseeable future.

No new hardware except a 120GB Hard drive and an HDMI cable? You would most definitely be better off buying a PS3 20gig model for this kind of money. This might be worth it if they included an internal HD-DVD and a 65nm chip, but as it is this is just a rehash at an outrageous price.

But it's black!

Seriously people are stupid, just look at all the variations of the bloody DS.

I hope the price hasn't been confirmed.

Though, to be fair, this does have twice the storage capacity of the high-end PS3.

[edit] And the HDMI cable is included - and the only HDMI cable that won't void your PS3 costs $100, no?

Heres a hint don't tell Sony your using a third party cable. Duh!

If they had replaced the Pro with the Elite, at $400, this would have been a killer deal.

Depending on the price/availability in Aus I want to sell my current 360 and pick up the 'Elite' version.

why get the elite? my current console works fine. i dont need more hard drive space. and i dont really care about hdmi.

It'll be the colour more than anything that sells these - mark my words :)

The amusing part is - if the original 360 been black then 100's would flock to get the new white console.

More disk space is nice, although I haven't come close to filling my current 360 HDD (I suspect very few people use thier 360 for storage - mp3s and video files get streamed from their pc, demos and arcade games get installed and deleted). HDMi is nice, but enthusiasts will already be upconverting component to HDMI (my av receiver does this) or not care in the first place.

Seems pretty stupid to me, not to mention a little rude to the early adopters. And the cost of the 120 GB drive that will be sold separately is outrageous!!!

I was hoping for built in HD-DVD. As soon as I saw it was under $500, I knew that was out the door. Ahh well.

Prices have all been confirmed. The link provided is the official announcement from Microsoft.

Wow, people are still complaining about 'early adopters' ? I guess they haven't learnt anything from the past ~20 years, GG.
