Interesting how the Microsoft Studios games are only 49.99.

I guess Microsoft is charging publishers a fee for allowing 3rd partys to release a game on their system. Notice all the non-microsoft games are 59.99?

I think that what Electronics Arts had such a problem with on the Xbox? Obviously they don't have a problem anymore

Jesus, $50 per wireless controller? Damn that's steep. Even $40 for a wired one...

Console cheaper than PC my ass.

Heh, yea, $400 for the premium right? Then 3 extra controllers (wired for cheapness) - $120, + $50 for PD0.

$570 just for 1 game and the controllers

DAMN!

EDIT: Add in like $35-40 of tax and you've got over $600

Yes, this is how it works. When they release new technology, they sell it to the people that would pay anything for it, then when sales slow down, and surplus increases, they lower the price some. etc. etc. They pretty much have to do this to be a profitable company.

The price isn't likely to come down untill another system is released, or untill next holiday season.

For me, I wouldn't buy any extra controllers, id be playing live.
Premium system bundle $400. 1 game = $50. playing Perfect dark zero or Project Gotham Racing 3? Priceless!

Xpensive! Im still scavanging to get the money together myself. Good luck people!

I'd expect sales of Gamecube, PS2, and Xbox systems to increase quite a bit this holiday season also, once mommy sees the price tag

I know they're charging that high because obviously there are plenty of people out there that would pay that much but I'm not gonna even think about paying that much. I'd rather pay for a couple months of rent instead.

The reason I said the extra controllers is because the only reason I'd actually want PD0 is for the co-op and deathmatch.

Good god thats expensive! $60 a game now?!?!?! wtf?!?! My Radeon 9700 pro has still been going strong since 2003 and from the looks of it, won't be retired for another year. ATI FTW!

I guess I'm alone in thinking, "Why would you buy a game before the system is out? D:"

.. and those who have a wireless network, are they to wait 2 years until they are down to a reasonable price, or buy one and become labelled 'silly' by people on the interweb. ;(

Nono, you're not alone. That's the first thing i thought.
I'm not sure wether to get this console on release or just wait until it cheapens a bit, it all feels a bit expensive to me.

and you can make a beast of a machine (mobo, ram, card and processor) for like...350-400ish??

1gig Ram : £30-40
Mobo (decent) : £80-90
Decent card (eg 6600Gt or X800pe) : £150ish
AMD 64 3000+ : 90-100

Dynast, but if we're talking an entire new computer, you'll also have to get a case, a decent monitor, a CD/DVD-Reader, preferably a sound card, and more.
You're thinking merely about upgrading, but everyone here have computers tho so I guess that's the reason to why you do it.:)

Let's be fair though. The 360 would absolutely destroy this pc in terms of raw power.

My pc is better specced than that an already it's struggling with recent games. I could spend another 1000 pounds on an upgrade and it still wouldn't match the 360.

My machine is better than that and it slogs along with recent games... A beast of a machine costs around $1500 minimum...

make sense, but who cares about a, or even b, g is where it's at !

But where does all that power go? How can you, the user, harness all of that power? Unfortunately, only through games. Its not exactly a high-powered development workstation. It's a gaming console. Productivity will unfortunately still be nil until the 1% of the population that knows how to gets rid of the horrible OS the 360 is running and starts running Linux on it and clustering units together, etc. Then we've got some real productivity power!

brilliant marketing plan ...dangle a carrot in front of xbox360 fans who have to wait 2 weeks to use any of of what they buy. Bet they'll sell a lot og games and stuff before the console is even released ..it's absolutely perfect because there's no reviews for any of the products

just a simple upgrade, and now that i think about it, 'beast' wasnt the right word.

so youre saying that the 360 will run games better than on the platform that designes them...sorry, how does that work??

Because the 360 is a dedicated gaming machine - there's no trouble with hardware compatability, no hungry operating system eating up a good chunk of your resources, no risk of single component acting as a large bottleneck. Take any console and build a pc with roughly equal specs - the console will perform far better in games every time.

The 360 GPU is also at least a generation ahead of the very best gfx card money can buy on the pc. Even when you can buy a gpu of equivalent power on the pc it still won't perform as well (because of the reasons stated above) You'll need considerably better hardware just to run games as well.

You're picking at straws ;) - we're talking about gaming here.

It does work Dynast, because consoles work at a different way when it comes to games, you know, the XB for example, uses a GeForce 3 graphics card, I'd like to see a GeForce 3 graphics card pull off say Halo 2 with all that normal mapping etc, without lag.

Whilst running a game on a PC(Running XP), has atleast a few backgrounds applications running, such as the OS itself, that consumes power, thus, can a console do alot more, with alot less, in terms of resources, this will all change with Windows Vista tho, which boots out of the OS when you run a game, thus having just about NO applications running in the background, not even the OS, allowing it to achieve the same performance with the same hardware as the consoles.:)

Fingers crossed :) This could be superb.

All seems so expensive, but then again the first xbox was 300 pounds at release, so this is actually cheaper

Yes, I also think that this could perhaps, atleast to SOME extent minimize cheating in games, atleast games where cheating involves running a background application, if the OS boots out so ONLY the game is the actual application that runs.

This is alot cheaper 3ssence, remember, when the first 360 released, it cost like.. 600 USD, or atleast in Sweden, 6000 kr, then it sold so badly in the first weeks, that after 2.5 weeks, they had to lower the price to like almost half the cost, I bought it before those 2.5 weeks..:(
All I got as compensation was a lousy controller and 2 lousy(imo) games.

Edit: Oops, sorry for the double post.. Darn..

But why is the memory card so expenisve. I eman I can buy a 512mb flash card for that money. I mean that means people in japan can buy 20gigs of memmory for that money. Isn't it overly expenisve.

Am I the only one that can't afford this? If I asked for an Xbox for christmas, I'd probally only get the console, a controller, and a game..

Or maybe im just poor?

If I get it for Christmas, I'd end up getting the same, or even less. There's not very many people that are going to get the Xbox 360 HD system with six games, a year of Xbox Live, and four wireless controllers, all at once.

My parents usually spend like $200 on xmas gifts for me, my brother and sister (each I mean) so if I even wanted it they would get me like a game and some controllers :p

not to rain on your little parade but ...

over a third of the world's population will go hungry on christmas day and every day after and before that

be thankful for what you get

Believe me I do. I was just comparing Xbox360 with my Xmas and considering how expensive it is. Some of my friends get gifts like no other though and are completely spoiled. For Easter they get gifts, for Thanksgiving they get gifts...like any holiday they get gifts...it's ridiculous.

The friend in question is an All-State wrestler for the U of M and knows tiger claw. He fights in UFC fights for a summer job. He would scare me if I wasn't friends with him.
