I'll try and keep it short.

Haven't played my 360 since GTA4.

3 days ago I loaded up Gears for a game. Went fine, like normal.

Today when I went to play there was no picture or sound and my Samsung LE40M87 had the message 'Mode not supported'. Now I havent done anything to my T.V since it was playing fine, no firmware updates nothing, I didn't touch the 360 either.

My 360 is connected via the HD component cable that came with it btw. I also tried using just the AV connection(yellow, red, white) and no luck either.

I then connected my 360 to an old SDTV and I could hear sound from the dash but no picture(and yes the 360 was switched to 'TV' on the plug).

I tried resetting the 360 but had no luck and since it was working fine 3 days ago I think it might be something more severe. Had it since December '06

Ideas?

How about that little switch on the side of the component cable going into the 360. Have you flicked that? Usually the cause of that error.

Did you try resetting it like such:
Restart your console. Hold the Y button and the Right trigger at the same time, and it should reset the video settings. ?

If not, then it definitely might be borked.

Both mine and my bro's 360s bricked it with GPU problems. As far as I know anything issues related to the GPU or AV thingee inside the box should give you one red-light and an E74 error. I had dodgy artifacting all over the screen before mine broke, then after restarting it I got the E74 page.

Still, it could be a GPU issue. Mine was only 9 months old so I went back to GAME and got a straight swap for a brand new one on the spot. But since you've had it since '06 I seriously doubt you'd be able to do that, and the extended 3-year warranty only covers three red-lights. Looks like it might be time to persuade your 360 to brick it with the RROD or something.

Sounds like your GPU is broken.

Any red lights on the front?

If not, that sucks because unless it's within a year from buying the 360, you gotta pay $150 I believe (standard warranty repair cost, same with Sony). Only RROD has the three year extended warranty.

Bricking it shouldn't be a problem. I think pressing the power and eject button repeatedly causes a RRoD (as seen on youtube; may or may not be true).

Cheers for the replies.

Yeah I did the reset last night(where the 360 turns itself back on and resets) on my SDTV(where I could hear sound but no picture as described in OP) but no luck. No red lights on the front btw.

Ren told me to try and make it RROD so I might have a go.

The $150 repair(guessing it's about 100euro for me) is lame and I don't wanna pay that. I might chance it in HMV with my receipt.

Should i ring the Xbox support line or will they just say ''yeah needs repair''.

Should i ring the Xbox support line or will they just say ''yeah needs repair''.

This is how it might go:

Microsoft - "We're sorry, but we are unable to replace your unit free of charge as it doesn't have the RRoD".

You - "*fiddle**fiddle* It has one now! :D"

Was reading about online and I read that some ppl just ring the support line and say their 360 got RROD'd even if it didn't

Just call MS and tell them you got the lights. It's enough for them. They know the lights don't always appear, so they won't check for them.

Hmmm...

Anyone know the best way to approach the call too? As this guy said:
Any way to ensure that I get a new model or anything else nice? Also what should I do in terms of my HDD (It's a core console with a seperate HDD) XBLA/DLC purchases and gamertags?
