So I finally opened my xbox 360 box again, and i was trying to connect to xbox live but it keeps failing in the ip address test, I did try to manually put the ip address but it keeps failing. HELP ME HL2NET

I'm connecting it directly to my Linksys WAG300N Router.

Edit: Ethernet

Have you power cycled your router? Did you check to see if DHCP was on?

Wagoon ... lol... ok .. sry cant help since i am a pcfag

Did you open the ports for xbox 360 in your router?

Should be 3074 for TCP, and 88 and 3074 for UDP.

I had a problem, but all I had to do was switch my livebox into 'pairing mode' ... if that means anything to you.

Open ports? 0_o Do you mean forward them? This shouldn't be needed unless hosting game servers. Even then, most console games should have "middle" server that acts like a proxy. Kind of like how all instant message clients work.

... If you don't understand basic TCP/IP principles (not looking at you Raziaar, but some of you I wonder about), clients request information and the server sends it to them. Since the client start the connection first and most firewalls only block incoming connections, this allows information to safely pass through firewalls.

Yes I mean port forwarding. I use the two terms interchangeably usually, even though I know they are different. And it was just a suggestion. A suggestion I put out there because *I* had to to forward my ports in order for my xbox to be able to connect to xbox live. I normally only have to forward them when I'm hosting a game or something, but in this scenario, my xbox wouldn't connect to live until I forwarded the ports I listed.

Which test is it failing specifically? from what I remember it does a number of tests.

When you say you manually set your IP settings what did you use? Also, on your pc go to your command prompt, type ipconfig /all and paste the results here.

Bitch I said should.

Well I knew port forwarding wouldnt do anything, but what the hell i tried it
same error "IP Address failed"

I tried to manually set my IP in my DHCP range (192.168.1.120) I tried this along with some others

Help bitches

Well. Having the same IP address as another device on your network, can cause a lot of bad things and is sometimes hard to troubleshoot. Try another number! You can from 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.254.

I tried a lot of numbers
It wont work...I believe it's my cable that causing the problem, i guess i need to get another one

did you try turning on the flux capacitor to counter the magnetic field of the radon shields? :dork:

seriously, have you tried that? Sometimes the gravitational pull of the radon shields can affect the ip address, which is why you need to turn on the flux capacitor. If you dont do this, then the vermoc aliens will enter earths atmosphere through a time portal caused by global warming. ;(;(;(

Same thing happened to me, so I just hooked it into the wireless router I have for my laptop and it worked great.

I had the same problem and then I found out it was because the console was banned. meh oh well
