XBOX LIVE NOOB question?

ok,so,I am finally gonna try Xbox Live,but,looking at the connection types,I am not sure I can,can I just use the Ethernet cable provided,plug it into my PC,and then right to my 360?
I believe my router is already plugged in,do I just need to plug my ethernet cable into my 360?

also,to sign up for silver,do I need a credit card?

Yes, you can. Though some games are not supported on the 360... very few of them are not supported, though. The most popular ones ARE supported. Look on xbox.com for a list.

xbox games require a the optional harddrive on the 360 unless you have a 360 console other then the core.

also silver does not allow you to play games online you will need a gold account for that.

for some reason,when I signed up for silver,I got a month GOLD free!
I was playin TF2 all night(minus the 2 hours I spent playing CoD4 online)
but,how do I get Microsoft points?

First of all, Xbox live gold does not require a credit card. You can buy various months of Live at stores like EB. They come in card form with a code on them. The Microsoft Points can be bought in the same way, or through the Xbox 360 with credit card.

And yes, every profile comes with one free month of Gold

the most I got in a card was 48-hours,and,after reading the Xbox Live booklet,it said my 2 payment methods
1. buy cards from stores
2.credit card

I know with cards you can get like 1 month, 3 month, 6 month etc

The best deal is the 12+ or whatever it's called. The card has 13 months for the price of 12 for about $60 canadian
