Well, what's the deal on Live Silver?

I hear taht there are going to be LIve Silver and Live Gold. I guess one gets you more than the other. THey are releasing 2 different version of the 360, one at $299 and one at $399. THe 399 comes with a free month of Gold. At least in the US.

well, yes. I was inquiring as to what precisely silver gets you, and if you can now get it through regular xbox.

Basically Silver xbox live members will get to play online games on the weekends (not every weekend unfortunately... just the weekends where you get "Xbox Live Gold Samples" and for 48 hours you can play online games.. Otherwise if you want to play online whenever you want, Gold is the way to go)

As far as I know, it's something like this:

Silver

• Send voice messages
• Friends list
• Create your Gamer Tag

Gold - All of the above, plus:

• Xbox Live Marketplace downloads
• Online gameplay

it's free and takes 30 seconds to set up ?

you can send messages, play on the weekend, download new content, download demos, download game trailers .. did i mention it was free ?

Silver is free. it comes with every xbox 360 and It is a "life-time" membership
it requires a storage device to use. (hard drive or memory card)

here is what i have gathered by alot of researching since microsoft's site fails to include details:

Xbox Live Silver comes free with EVERY system
Xbox Live Silver- this includes:
==ability to play online on certain select weekends
==download of all patches
==select downloads might be free
==a gamertag (xbox live global username) -complete stat tracking
==ability to talk via voice communication with anyone around the world on your buddy list who is online (possibly even if they are playing offline)at anytime - even mid-game. You can hold conversations with several people at once
==ability to shop at the xbox live marketplace (u can buy marketplace money at game retailers)
==downloadable game trailers
==downloadable movie trailers
==downloadable game demos
=maybe more i missed.


Xbox Live Gold is $49.99 per year
you no longer need a credit card, you can just recharge your subscription every year by buying a Gold card at game retailers

Xbox Live Gold all of the features of xbox live silver and:

==ability to play online anytime you want
==ability to download extra, bonus, or new content ( more levels, stuff like that. they also have the ability to charge you for content with market place money)
==probably more features

I should say that now you can "wisper someone" like chat with them in private in the lobby instead of everyone in the lobby hearing your secret plans
