Here we go yet again with another ridiculous recommendation thread. :dozey:

This time though, it's not about the software, but rather I'd like to know from others which is more reliable hardware wise. After all, I don't want to jump on the, "I've sent my 360 out for repairs for the bizillionth time" bandwagon.

I want to know from people who own both, (or either) any problems they've had before I buy.

I've heard that Microsoft has finally resolved the whole RRoD issue. Is this true? Are there any other problems with the most currently updated hardware?

I've owned an XBox 360 for a couple of months and have had no problems.
I'm not sure, but I think I read somewhere that the latest XBox 360s have some new sort of something that helps prevent RRoDs. I could be completely wrong though.

Nintendo Wii.
I actually thought about the Wii for Metroid:Regeneration and the virtual console, but that's about it. I could count the number of original Wii titles that interest me on one hand. How large of a selection does the virtual console offer? I am somewhat of an old-skool fanboi.

The new Jasper build virtually eliminates RRODs. Since their release, I don't think there's been any because I've yet to hear about one.

They run the coolest and are the quietest and the best to purchase. They come with a 150 PSU I'm pretty sure. So that'd be the easiest way to find out if you've got a Jasper or not.

Honestly, I've had mine RROD at least twice, but it's not something that's stopped me from liking the console. It's easily the most user friendly, and games + multiplayer just work perfectly on it. Best choice in me mind.

I've had my 360 for over a year and surprisingly haven't had a problem. The only thing that's happened to me was when I got the RRoD after a power surge while I was gaming. But I noticed that a light on the giant brick on the power cord was an odd color, so I unplugged and re-plugged it and it's worked fine since.

All of the famous classics and many gems that are mandatory playing by my standards. I already owned hard copies of all the N64 ones, but I got to play some good 'ol NES and SNES standards that I've never had the privilege to before. Also, Lost Winds and World of Goo.

And a list of really good actual Wii games (this list is comprised of games that I have either played and love, or have heard only very good things about from others):

Resident Evil 4 (Wii edition) - This game controls beautifully on here, even if it isn't new
Resident Evil 5
Metroid Prime 3
Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess
Super Mario Galaxy
Mario Kart
Mad World
No More Heroes
Okami (Wii version)

And plenty of others that I haven't played that but still hear very good things about.

And between the 360 and PS3 there are only a few games that aren't already done, and better, on PC

Jasper build eh? What should I look for to make sure I get the newest model? Model number, physical differences such as extra heatsinks etc?

Wait, Resident Evil 5 is coming out for Wii? Are you serious? Also, I already have Twilight Princess for GameCube, Resident Evil 4 for PS2, and the others you mentioned really don't interest me very much.

As for the PS3 and 360 having many of the same ports for PC, my 7600GT video card is too archaic for today's games, and if I get a new one, it'll only be the best. (nothing less than a GTX or ATI equivalent model) This way I don't have to do so much .ini tweaking to make current games run better. I f**king hate that. I want to play the game the way it was meant to be played. (LOL @ Nvidia slogan) My CPU is a dinosaur too as it's only a single-core, so I wouldn't feel good about upgrading unless I get a new CPU too.

That's why I've considered going the console route lately. Cheaper, and less screwing around with mods, patches, and configurations. As far as gaming goes, I've gotten really lazy and would rather not bother lately. :p

Is Mad World really that good? I didn't have many high expectations for it.

That's one of the ones I haven't played yet. It looks ****ing sick.

I don't like how it's all in black and white, although I'm not sure, but I think I might have seen some red in the trailer.

Damn, I just looked into it, and they aren't making it for Wii. I haven't really been following it but I guess I just assumed since it's pretty much the perfect platform for it. Vague rumors of a port in the distant future.

Hahahaha, just listened to a very positive review of it and at some point:

"Mad World is a heavily stylized, very brutal, oldschool, beat em up. As you probably have already noticed it's completely black and white except for blood... (scene of a man being vertically chopped in two with two chainsaws) of which there is a lot.

Thanks!

BTW, where the hell are the PS3 owners? Surely it didn't tank that bad right?

Welcome! And I'm not sure where the PS3 owners are. Honestly, I know no one around here with a PS3. Like absolutely no one.

I can't comment on those. D:

There are quite a lot actually, the forums pretty evenly split. They must all be in a coma.

If the Wii does get a RE5 port, it'll probably look like ass though. :p

I stopped noticing the difference between grapics in different consoles a long time ago. It's just like hi-definition TV, the difference is there, but I don't see it.

Not quite. I can see a difference between the best looking 360/PS3 games and the best looking Wii games.
The Wii's graphics look undoubtedly last-gen imo.

Hi-def on the other hand, I really don't think GTA IV looked any worse on a standard-def TV compared to high-def. In fact, I dare say for some reason standard-def looked better on some 360 games. Maybe it was only because I was playing on a 1080i TV though at the time and many, if not all 360 games are 760p.

Well it's really all a matter of taste and opinion. I don't notice or mind graphics that aren't the best out there, I don't much care for the online community for any other console, and those games are better on PC for me anyway. But I'm not you.

360 - RROD
PS3 - No gaems
Wii - Casuals
PC - $$$

No system is good
they are all bad

Are you sure Mad World is even good enough to be in a list with Metroid Prime 3, Legend Of Zelda Twilight Princess, Super Mario Galaxy, and Mario Kart?

Seriously Saturos, I feel the same way about my 360 as I do my Ipod Touch. I've never regretted buying it.

I'm not sure what you've heard about it, but all the reviews I've read for it have been very good.

I don't really care for any online community tbh. I'm mainly a single player loner. :p

The day MMO's completely take over is probably the day I give up gaming forever. Or at least stick to the old-skool stuff anyways. I just can't handle the sheer number of idiots that populate the servers of games like WoW. Completely ruins the experience for me.

Strange you brought this up. I realized these same exact flaws for all three systems too. The PC really is where it's at this generation, and here not so long ago people thought PC gaming was in it's death rattle. LOL
Thanks to the mistakes of three knuckleheaded companies, PC gaming is back stronger than ever.

If only I had enough $ for wireless/satellite broadband and a full system upgrade.

Just a note to all those people wondering about Mad World:

IT WAS DEVELOPED BY CLOVER

YOU MIGHT HAVE NEVER HEARD OF THEM FOR ANOTHER GAME YOU'VE NEVER HEARD OF, GODHAND

NOTHING CLOVER HAS EVER MADE HAS BEEN ANYTHING SHORT OF "ABSO-FUCKING-LUTE MASTERPIECE"

Just to let you know.

Thanks!

I gave up on coming to these threads, as they usually just turn into battle royale. I've never have any problems with my PS3.

I have a Wii and 360 and I'd go with 360 tbh.

The Wii does have good games, but it still needs more time to get some excellent games.

Also high five at Idiocracy, I actually just rewatched it yesterday.

I know. F**king fanbois always ruin everything with their orgasmic and pathetic loyalty to their deity company of choice.
I'd like to just buy all three systems so I can rub it in their fat faces tbh, but I prefer to express some humility.

I just go with whatever system/company currently has the games/franchises I like, and tbh the PS3 does have a few exclusives I like such as Ratchet & Clank:FToD

The 360 on the other hand has Fable II.

i have yet to see a big console war on this forum....something versus halo...thats a different story.

Oh god, please don't ruin my poor thread by starting a brainless halo fanboy war. I don't want vaginal secretions from a bunch of fanbois to gunk up everything I post here.

Now, about the 360. :|

Ratchet and Clank on the ps2 was great.
So is Fable 2 on the 360.

buy both but for gods sake do not get the Wii. i'm about to sell mine and its useless to a hardcore gamer as myself

Since both consoles are pretty solid in their current iterations, my advice to you is to make a list of all the exclusives on each console that you'd be interested in playing and go from there.

TBH guys, right now I'm more concerned with which console is going to be more reliable hardware wise. Games don't matter if your constantly sending in your console for repairs right? I want the best quality and reliability in my hardware, just like my PS2 that's lasted me since I got it back in 2001 without a single problem.

I'm approaching this consumer decision from this angle because there are plenty games I like on both consoles really, so just get the most reliable one. :)

I have two things to say:
First, RE5 will never come to the Wii.
Second, I have a 360, and I love it to death. It RROD'd on me once, which was a pain, but even so I've gotten more fun out of it than any console besides the N64. Admittedly, I play almost nothing but shooters, but still.

I love that series. :)

I envy you. :dozey:

How does aging work in Fable II and what's the maximum age limit?

For the most part, as your strength experience increases, you'll notice that you get taller and more mature.

There is a point in the game where you leave for 10 years and you come back much older. Later, you can choose to give up your youth to save someone if you so choose.

Well, in all honesty, the track record of the 360 was one of the reasons that pushed me towards the PS3. I know two friends with a 360, and both of them suffered from the RROD at some point. Though I haven't looked into how well the new jasper model 360 work to preventing the issue, supposedly they're quite stable.

Yes sir. The Jaspers are quite amazing. My friend has one, and let's just say I compared a launch 360 to that, and it was disgusting how cool his was in comparison. It was blowing out cold air whilst the launch one blew out near scorching hot.

In all honesty, the 360... FINALLY.. has it's RROD problems resolved. The Wii has never had a problem, and I've heard the PS3 has some problems such as over heating and dead disc drive, but they're not even close to as widespread as the 360's RROD.

However, I'm extremely content with my 360 purchase. Also, I prefer the 360 controller over the PS3's. That's just personal opinion.

But getting back to your question, hardware wise should be no problem as of this time. All the systems work how they should so it's up to you on which to get.
