Hai.

Ok I miss games and gaming. The last game I purchased was HL2 Episode 1...yeah:|

I have the option of building a pretty powerful PC for about $1500 but then I realized that I need to buy a car by next summer and I need to save up as much as possible.

So my next idea was to settle on a gaming system, but I don't know which one I should get..PS3 or 360.

Now, I know the whole "LOLWTFBBQ THERE R NO GAMEZ FOR PS3 LOLOL" argument but I heard it runs games better than the 360? Is that true?

Good thing about gaming systems is that it's A LOT cheaper than building a gaming pc. One thing I would like though is the ability to use my keyboard and mouse to play FPS games through the gaming console. I heard that that's only possible through the 360..is that true?

Need halp please.

Thanks!

well, what games do you want to play? you aren't going to get an un-bias answer by asking what console performs what better, the only real way to determine what you really want is to step back and decide on what games are available for each and go from there.

there are close to 1 million other threads on this topic . . .

if don't play games alot, which it seems you do not, I would go with the PS3
blu rays nice

If you want to get technical, the PS3 has greater theoretical power than the 360, but the 360 is vastly easier to code and develop for. At this stage in the generation's lifecycle though, PS3 devs are getting a really good handle on the Cell processor, so they're about the same really.

You can use a keyboard and mouse on the PS3 for its browser and chat functions (and on the 360 for chat), but as far as I'm aware you can only use gamepads to play games on either system.

So basically, you only have to decide which system's exclusives you like more. Gears of War, Forza, and Halo? or Killzone, MGS, and Gran Turismo?

Well one thing I'd love to get my hands on is Grand Turismo 5..other than that I like to play FPS's and Resident Evil/Silent Hill type games.

Alan Wake and Heavy Rain really appeal to me atm.

I own both, i'm probably going to sell the PS3, it doesn't have any games I like.

I would agree to pick the games you like and go with that system. I enjoyed Uncharted 2 on the PS3, but that's literally about it.

Going on ebay. I'll just stick to 360 and PC.

Finished thread is finished.

There are games for the PS3 now. It's just used as a troll these days.

it depends on what exclusives appeal to you and thats the bottom line. Would you rather play:

halo, gears, fable, alan wake, crackdown, forza?

or

killzone, resistance, infamous, heavy rain, gran turismo, littlebigplanet, uncharted, god of war?

I like the xbox lineup of games more but my Xbox just died for the 2nd time. It was an initial release console (Nov 2005) and was repaired like 2 years ago free of charge. now I'm thinking about buying the Arcade Slim and just slapping my old HDD on there

I had both a for a while but sold the 360 back once I upgraded my PC. They do a lot of the same stuff, but for me the 360 exclusives were not doing it for me whereas the PS3's were. Demon's Souls is reason enough to get a PS3 by itself. Yes, it's that good. Check out the games and decide for yourself. Blu-ray really helps push the PS3 ahead in my estimation as well. I dig it. I am also really surprised to not see this thread closed already.

Sounds like you want a PS3 already. Look at each game library, then consider the costs.

I'll give you my situation. I first bought a 360 through a hasty decision, but holy **** did I regret it quick. No offense to the 360-heads here. I'm a PC first, console second person. Many games that were big hitters on the 360 were also on the PC, and if it wasn't on the PC, I usually don't feel like I missed out on it. I was also paying for an XBL subscription that I ended up really using for only one game that I played only single digit hours a week. I don't know what the situation is like now, but I sold my 360 and got a PS3 a few weeks later. Now the PS3 is the perfect compliment to my PC. And it's only getting better, so I'm happy with it. Very excited to play truly worthwhile exclusives like LittleBigPlanet 2 and Demon's Souls.

The "power" difference between the consoles is negligible and completely irrelevant unless you're engaging in a fanboy debate or something. I've heard of a few mutli-platform games that got the worse port on the PS3 (dull lighting, less detailed objects), but it never seemed like it was enough to care about, and it mightn't be that common. The exclusive titles seem to always look sharp, anyway.

The main thing you should be looking at is which exclusives you'd prefer to play. Honestly, were I to pick a console again at this point (I grabbed a 360 at launch), I'd probably go for a PS3 for various reasons, but that's just my taste. Have a look around at games and see which console plays to your likes more.

For me, it would be PC or nothing. But if you have no PC at all, or no good parts to salvage, then it can be expensive to start from scratch to build a gaming PC.

So, I'd say get the older style (fat) 360 (if there are any left) because they got a $50 price drop when the new one came out. So you can get an arcade version - new - for $150, and pick up a used HDD from ebay or something.

The new 360 has a quieter fan though.

The multiplatform games are better on the 360 in every instance but one (Oblivion), as far as I know (and I pay attention). And it's cheaper.

If you have an HDTV or HDMI/VGA (1080i or better) monitor you can use that for 360. On the other hand if you have an HDMI monitor/TV, then you might consider the PS3 for the Blu Ray capability. Actually, there may be a cable to use VGA for the PS3 as well, but it won't let you play Blu Ray (or it will be in reduced quality) (HDMI content protection).

As far as I know, when you add up all these cables and connectors and accessories, the cost of a game system is about the same as a budget build gaming rig. (last years video cards, etc.) which would be stellar for Valve games. At least if you have anything at all to go on: monitor; case; kb; mouse...

We can help you put one together if you are interested.

PC + PS3. Most of the decent 360 games you can get on PC anyway, whereas not many PS3 exclusives got on the PC.. if any at all. Near the end of my 360's lifespan, just before it crapped out on me, I had one game I would even think about playing, and even then I could live well without it. 360 just doesn't have games with lifespans, for me they seem to be a one-play deal and most I can get on PC.

I'd say PS3, if just for the great exclusives.. Folklore, MGS4, Demon's Souls, 3D Dot Game Heroes, etc.

no

low tier(good enough to play everything) gaming PC will run you about $800 including peripherals and monitors, and you really don't need to pay for anything else(but I can't say that here)

360(or PS3) = $300, HDTV = $300-400, Games = $30-60 EACH, Extra controllers $40-60EACH, (XBL would be an extra $50 for the initial investment, PSN+ like 20 or something i don't even know it's so useless), HDMI cables will run you $10-100, increasing in price depending on how bad of a shopper you are

I've had the 360 from launch and PS3 for like almost 2 years. I've played like five games on the ps3 and like 20-30 on Xbox. But still I would get both, both have great unique titles. Well in my opinion PS3 is starting to have more unique titles, Demon's Souls, Heavy Rain. Flip a coin, you'll be happy with any of them.

Oh, on multimedia side the PS3 demolishes Xbox. It's quiet, like you'd want a multimedia device to be and has bluray. On top of that the scaler is god damn awesome in it, watch something like Lord of the Rings DVD and you'll think it's in HD.

Wat. Games cost money on PC too, and why would he need a second controller? You can't play splitscreen on PC, so it's moot :p

I said I can't say it here there is a sticky that says I can't so I won't!

He wasn't talking about that, and frankly the fact you said "you don't need to pay for anything else" is not only as bad as advocating piracy outright, but kind of a stupid thing to say considering you were trying to promote the platform...

Also, you don't need an HDTV to play consoles, and therefore don't need an HDMI cable either. I use my 360 with my computer monitor just fine, you're holding it to a different standard for no other reason than to demonstrate how much it potentially costs.

The PS3....does has games, but overall I think the 360 has a ton more exclusives now. give it a few years and it could go either way. Also look at your reviews if you get both systems down the road. Some like Batman may be more fun on PS3 because you can play as The Joker. for some thats a huge advantage. I bet at Xmas time there will be another price drop on the PS3

Check the array of games you want to get. Get the system that has most of them. Or get a custom built PC, not ridiculously expensive.

Xbox really just inherits most of the titles that PC gets (a little sooner) but PS3 has the more exclusive titles.

If I was you, I'd spend it on the PC.

I think most people already own a TV. You don't need another controller. I bought a 6ft HDMI cable the other day for $2.

Most of us here already own a monitor, methinks.

I'm going to buy the new Elite and transfer my HDD over. I can still sell my HDD online too after the transfer. My 360 has the red rings, and I could spend $119 for the repair, or just $290 after my discount. plus I'll probably get like $100 for my HDD on ebay

Hasn't this been discussed a bazillion times before? :p

If you've already got a kick-ass PC, then go with the PS3. If not and you can't afford to upgrade your PC, then 360.

Considering the similarity of cost these days thanks to Microsoft taking the Xbox down the same route as the PS3, by making it slim and therefore reducing costs, its a bit of a tie.

However, I still think the PS3 nudges ahead. Blu-ray as standard, more you can do with the PS3, the PS3 is easier to use (in my experience). And the PS3 tends to get better exclusives, everything from the games themselves to the PS3-only downloadable content (like the Joker in Batman Arkham Asylum mentioned earlier), to PS3-only beta access of upcoming games. The 360 has a superior online experience, but you pay for it...and the only reason these days I see why the 360 is better is because more people have a 360, so theres more people online. The actual online store etc of the 360 cant hold its own against the PSN anymore I think. But I dont see what you actually GET other than more people online for the 360 considering you have to pay. I have never, ever had a single connection problem or lag with the PS3 online, always have just as much fun as I did with the 360, and the Playstation Network is, oh I dunno, 100% ***KING FREE!

At the end of the day it all comes down to what you want from the console.

Before the 360 slim came out, I wouldve said get a PS3 slim, because although the prices were similar, you still had to buy a wireless reciever etc etc for the 360, and that puts a good £50-100 extra on top, whereas the PS3 has that all as standard.

So now that the costs and functionalit are roughly similar, but the blu-ray on the PS3 is too good not to have, think of why you would have one.

And what games you prefer. Almost every game worth playing is released on both platforms these days, and the console exclusive games (where a game is only released on one console) arent actually all that much to write home about.

Yeah they're exclusive, but I find myself no longer wishing I had a 360 now that I have a PS3. But thats because I love Gran Turismo, I love Metal Gear Solid, and I cant stand Halo or Gears of War, so I dont want a 360 anymore. When I had a 360 it was great, it broke and had to have numerous parts replaced, but it was still great. I just couldnt not have a PS3 in my life and the PS3's games.
