i have a fresh installation of windows xp, when i load up windows there are vertical lines all over the screen, its just about useable but it looks realy bad.

when i try intalling the drivers for my card it gets to 61% and then the screen goes blank and nothing happens.

ive tried downloading the latest drivers and the exacte same thing happend, any one got any ideas whats going on?

I assume this is a new card, yes? Lines across the screen usually indicate that the graphics card has been overheated or has malfunctioned somehow.

you should use the manufacturers latest drivers off their website - and remove all previous drivers before hand - including XP's default pathetic attempt at a driver. Just say no.

how do you get rid of all the current drivers they are not showing up anywhere

if they arent in add/remove programs (in ctrl panel) then you should be ok to just install the ones you get off the xfx website

I had the exact same problem with this card, I installed for a friend, took me 2 hours to find out what the problem was. The solution is insane!

Goto your regeditor: inside HKLM under "SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Enum\PCI"
make sure the PCI folder is highlighted, now click on Security then Permissions: make sure "ALLOW" is enabled for both "FULL CONTROL & READ". Then click on Advanced and make sure that "Reset permissions on all child objects and enable propagation of inheritable permissions" has been enabled/checked. "Allow inheritable permissions from parent to propagate to this object" needs to be disabled/unchecked. That should fix it :E

hold down the windows key and press R. this will bring up the run window, type in "regedit" then you should be ok with his ^ instructions

Start menu, Run: type in "regedit" press enter. Remember: don't mess with anything else in there.

..... ok slight problem, it intalled fine evry thing was going well then it asked me to plug in the suplementry power connecter, when i did windows wouldnt load up and now it wont load up at all

Oh shoot you forgot that. Alright no worries, I did that as well. I got the message saying that there isn't enough power to supply the card to its' full capacitites so it will run at lower settings or something along those lines.

Here's what you do, you turn off the PC (and unplug the power cable). Check your Power Supply, it has to be at least 250/300W( if it's 200W it doesn't really matter - I'm running a R9800 flashed to XT on a 200W PS, as long as you don't have too many devices such as Hard Disks, CD Drives you should be fine). Take one of the extending cables from the Power Supply (there are quite a few usually, some are connected to your Hard Disk and CD Drives) and connect it to your Geforce card. There's a plastic slot on one of the corners of the card, if you can't find look at the manual for the picture - it tells you where it is. In case you don't have any free cables running from the Power Supply, check to see if the ones connected to your Hard Disk or CD Drives have a second connector at the end of the cable or on the middle of it - you can connect two devices with one power supply cable usually.

you dont understand ever since i plugged it in the vertical lines have come back and windows wont finish loading instead it drops me a a blue screen that says something about not being able to run windows incase of damage to my system. it says to load up in safe mode but that dosent even work

Okay I've been searching for a while now to see what's the problem and so far I haven't found any magic solutions; here's something you could try: disconnect any extra CD drives or devices from the Power Supply, and reboot, this is to check if it's a power problem. If it works then you need to get a stronger PSU. If it doesn't try to install the card on a friend's PC, the problem could be a faulty card. I'll keep looking for more answers, in the meantime you should probably reinstall your old card because I think this is gonna take a while :(

Oh and post the rest of your PC specs, that could give me a clue.

i tried it on another machine and ive had all the same problems i think its a faulty card. this is going to look bad this card was a replacement for another faulty card (though it was a very diffent fault last time). mabye ill try an ATI card next time im not haveing much luck with nvidia.

cheers for your help :)

Alright, sorry I couldn't do more. And if you want a good card, may I suggest a radeon 9800 (pro or non-pro both versions are great) or even the 9800XT :E
