XFX GeForce FX 5200 / 128MB DDR now $19.99 after rebates!

That's a dollar for every frame per second you will get in Half-Life 2.

The card is notably better than what I have now (GeForce MX 440). Granted, it's not a very good card, but people looking for a budget system can make do with it.

I wouldn't recommend buying it from tigerdirect, though. They have a terrible reputation with rebates. If you buy from them, you're never going to see that $40 (www.resellerratings.com )

Its not even worth 19.99

mabye if they were giving it away free...

even then I wouldn't play games with it, just put it in an internet box.

we bow in the face of your obvious 1337ness.

Seriously, I had one of these and it was terrible. HL2 on it? hahahahahah, only if you're wanting to run it on DX7! I ran Far Cry on mine, and it worked(somewhat) because I hated it so much that I didn't care if it broke when I OCed it. I got corruption all the time, but hey, it was a free "upgrade".

Then I got my Radeon 9800 Pro 128MB and have never looked back.

Don't get this card. It will break your backbone into pieces small enough to blow away into the wind. You will become a backboneless jellyfish, apt to bursts of sullen outbursts at friends who don't see the "light". Don't believe me, ask Dr. Phil. He knows.

i had a fx 5200 for a year. it worked fine, except at dx9. i overclocked it and applied better cooling, then overclocked more, from 250/400 to 320/510. i picked up about 10000-12000 3dmarks in 3dmark01. that's not too shabby now, is it? it also ran doom3 at 1024x768 on medium quality with a few tweaks. it's not a killer card but i was pleased with it.

i'd definitely pick this card up if it had the 128 bit memory bus. if not, then it does suck.

I did the same thing. 5200 on Halo vs. 9800 pro on Halo = extreme gfx difference in terms of image quality and FPS.

$20 for a graphics card that will allow you to experience HL2, Doom 3, Far Cry and Stalker? Excellent deal imo. Sure it may not give you the detail levels or resolution you expect, but it is only 20 dollars!

I may pick up a couple and use them in any new builds I do in the near future. Great deal for people who occasionally play games.

given, however most people would prefer to have at least a bit of eye candy. Maybe I'm too serious a gamer and need to lighten up a bit.

Although I still say the card ain't any good for a real gamer. ;)

FWIW. I just got this video card in today, with a new motherboard, 2.6 P4 processor, and a 512 MB stick of RAM. Ran the video stress test and got 60 FPS. Not bad IMO. It will all cost me around 250 bucks after rebates.

why would it not give you good details and quality? my geforce 4 ti4200 128mb agp8x card runs hl2 at all of the highest settings by default without me changing anything. that's the way it sets itself up. i run 1024x768@100hz on a 19" trinitron and the only things i don't run are anti-aliasing and vertical sync. granted, i am only capable of dx8, ut i don't have to drop 400 bucks on a new card either.

highest setting? at how many fps..that seems kinda fishy but who knows ive never sen that card before

the game sets itself up by default to all high settings except for it uses simple water. i do not run aa & af but that is it. it runs perfectly. in fact, i am playing it now at work on a p4 1.7 with 512ddr and a gf4 mx440 64mb 4x agp card. the whole "upgrade your video card" thing is such a sham. if someone spent 400 dollars on a card thinking a gf4 or equivalent (or even less) wouldn't run this game, congratulations, you have been successfully advertised to!

It might include pixel shaders (unlike GF4 mx440), but believe me I went for a similar card and frame rates sucked

im in the same boat as a couple of you. i have the 5200 and soon im upgrading to a 9800 pro. im excited about it but i wont be able to get one for at least 1-2 weeks which leaves me in a tough situation. i dont know whether i should get HL2 now and play medium-low settings or wait for my new card.
