Help people, there is an 80% chance that XP freezes once it finishes loading. The spyware and virus scan turned up nothing, any idea what it can be?

Run some HDD diagnostic utility; perhaps something's wrong with it.

Start with chkdsk, it fixed a few of my problems (Start->Run->type: chkdsk).

Does XP freeze while booting in safe mode as well?

Thank you, that solved it! Since when did they stop doing chkdsk checks whenever windows did not shut down correctly?

I am also having problems with XP. Since after strted using this, it is slow in all operations. I was formerly using 98SE without any problems. Is this due to low RAM?

Glad to hear that it helped :) I don't know when the checks upon boot occur, I almost never see them, 2 days ago one occured out of the blue.

Hard to tell, if you don't tell us how much RAM you've got ;)

I have a P4 with 256 MB of RAM with ASUS motherboard. My PC is fast with 1 to 3 windows of browser or others are open, but it will start freezing occasionally with more windows open. For example, if I have 2 windows of browsers, and then if I open Photoshop, it is very very slow.

More ram will do wonders. I would suggest at least getting to the 1GB mark. :p

1gb is a minimum in todays demanding world and fast paced society..
