Currently, I run Windows 2000 Pro (SP4) and have been thinking of upgrading to XP. I really don't want to buy the upgrade, I want the full version of XP. Very hard to buy unless you buy a whole PC or M/B+CPU combo.
Recently, I was able to get my hands on 2003 Pro Server (legally - long story) and was thinking...
Would the XP drivers (for example - for my ATI 9800 video card) work with this version of Windows? (I am worried because it is the server edition).
I can only assume Steam/HL2/CS:S, etc. would work fine; I'm just curious about all the drivers.

Does anyone here use 2003 Pro Server, or know of other's experience with it? Or maybe just know off the top of your head?

Also - I came to this forum with this question because the intelligence level of the people here is much higher on average than other HL2/Steam forums I've been to.

Thanks, Hulk :bounce:

i use 2003 pro server (legally allowed to use it from my uni etc) .. as a server but for gaming etc, it's not the best. there is a sort of 'transformation' pack for it, which enables/adds things which xp has, but i can't remember the site.

how did you get it legally, it's $40,000 + or something like that.

Why do you want the Full Version of XP instead of the upgrade?

^ i bought the upgrade (with student discount) for about $120AU from one of the expensive computer stores (harvey norman) so you could probably get a good discount too, if you're a student.

you can get 2003 for £100 but it only ha 5 user lincences

Thanks all for the replies.
As far as Upgrades - I've never had good experiences with them before (3.1 to 95; 95 to 98). Starting with 2000, I just got the full blown version.

My wife works with a marketing/sales group for Microsoft and they have sample copies to give to business partners/potential clients. These sample products are actually the full blown product, but they are not package to sell or can they be sold. Comes with the prodcut ID key and everything.
I was wrong about the version I have - it's actually the enterprise version, and came with 25 user keys!!!!
I'm going to see I she can get hold of an XP Pro copy and maybe just play with 2003 server on my other machine.

Thanks guys.
