xp problems

im having trouble installing xp on my computer. My computer loads the setup and everything but right before it goes to the formating/install section it stops and says either the cd is not a valid xp cd or my computer doesnt recognize it..this is an american xp btw. my friend has an italian on and it installs perfectly. i have tried an xp professional and home edition and they both dont work..keep in mind i did buy these cds for xp. so is there anyone who knows whats wrong?
