my friend got the new XP x64 and he wants to reformat but when he put the cd in the cd-drive, there were not any options for reformat. he is currently running XP professional. how do u install a new OS?

why is he installing XP64?
so he can use out-dated drivers, have games not work, and see no performance improvement at all in windows?

Restart system, before Win boots, hit your BIOS key, (Mostly F1 or Del), and into BIOS, in the priority boot selection in the BIOS, choose "Boot form CD" as first priority boot, save and exit.
When system boots, you will see black screen with a question asking you "Boot from CD" and . and .. and ... hit enter before the dot reaches three dots.

Follow Windows installation instructions. Read questions/options and understand them, before hitting Yes, No or lemme think about it. at this time it a good idea to partition disk if you wish for, also you can scan disk for errors since its used and abused with Steam.

Good Luck.

i told him that the OS might not be suitable for him but i just want to see whether it works or not. if it doesn work that, hes gonna hve to return the disc.

According to your Signature, you do realize that you need to upgrade in the near figure right? Maybe before Fall?

And how long have you had that 5400RPM HD? Jesus.

lemme kno I sell you coople of steff. :cheese:

I'm using XP x64 and all my games run fine. HL2, CS:S, Guild Wars. Those are the main games I play. Haven't had one blue screen/problem yet. Must be the 4800+

edit:it also runs very stable, even my x86 programs work fine.
