XSI and the SDK

Ok I think I read someplace that a version of XSI was coming with the SDK so when you got it you had all the stuff needed to make models am i correct. I would like to know I am not very good at modeling in maya or 3dsmax I really prefer XSI.

I'm personally not quiet sure if it is or not... I shall give you some proper info when my head clears, until then Either Hiro, Sidewinder or Mindless are the people to ask....

they have brought out a free version of XSI its called v3.0 u can get it from the offical sofimage site. I dunno about the the sdk having the XSI version because really it would just add to the download size. I don;t actuallt think u get hammer in the hl1 sdk so I am guessing it will be the same. They are both exsternal programs

[HL2Central] Will half-life2 comes with a light-version of softimage|xsi?
[Gabe Newell] Yes.

There you go. It's from an interview on HL2 Central.

Also to note hammer does come with the full install of the HL1 SDK, and I'm pretty sure there is mention of the new version coming out with the HL2 SDK.

Thanks Spin, oh and Hammer, is meant to come with the SDK too

there you go. though we are no sure if it what the XSI release will contain i.e. rendering features. though for those who don't have the $4000 for 3dsmax you can't go wrong with XSI for modeling.

i personally emailed gabe about this one and he told me that they are working with softimage to get a gmax sort of thing for xsi . so it will be xsi but with limited features :).
so we will most probably get a good piece of xsi in our sdk :) plus they also stated somewhere that they will be releasing sample skeletons and animations that will only be in xsi format.

edit: stone its nice to see that im considered as a knowlegeable person :)

hmm, more reason to spend money on a removable hard drive, so i can put XP on it then....oh well

/me money goes to all the corporate entities, robbing it all :p

SDK is Software Development Kit. it will contain all the neccesarry information and converters to get models, maps,code,skins,etc.. to work with the source engine. the SDK is what Valve uses to create the game so for them to give it to us is a charity of unfathomanable proportions. It will also contain Hammer- which i beleive is the map editor but so much more. As well as sample animations, skeletons, meshes so that we can see how Valve does it. Yet again i can't think of any other company that releases the SDK to a brand new engine without at least milking a few sequals out of it. thank you Valve, thank you, thank you. And i hope SideW posts my new models soon so i can regain so of the dignity i lost groveling to Valve.
