XSI lite via STEAM

I read that a Softimage “XSI Lite” version will be delivering via STEAM.

FACT: Softimage Advanced XSI and Essential both need License servers in order to operate at all.

I hope they are not going to deliver the tool, and put the XSI license servers on the STEAM servers, so if say you don’t pay one month, your XSI can’t access the liscence server therefore you can’t operate the tool at all.

I know that the XSI needs those license servers in order to work at
all, there is no way around this.

Oh man, I wonder if that is what they have in mind, hmmm, maybe that's why Softimage agreed to do this with them in the first place. To try and tap into the MOD commuity and make them pay to use their tool.

I know that know one really knows, I am just speaking out loud.

you can download the "XSI lite" version from softimage.com i believe.

Indeed, it's called XSI|EXP 3.0 and is free to download once your register at the softimage website.

XSI|EXP is limited in several ways, and it is thought that a plugin will be made available to convert work into a HL2 native format.

I know I have that one and I have been doing tutorial after tutorial...

The problem is buds, that when ever you try and RENDER PASS/REGION
Anything you get this "XSI DEMO" written over everything.
I am currently searching for the answer to this, but I fear there is not fixing for this...

The only hope is either find any way to fix that, or maybe STEAM will deliver the HL2 Shaders and that all I will need for HL2.
XSI Advanced and Essential both use Mental Ray rendering which cinema quality rendering.

Yup,. I checked it out with the XSI Pro's. There is no way to get rid of these watermarks in XSI|EXP.
I guess either the XSI Lite that is shipping/or via STEAM will have the HL2 Shaders, so that's all I need anyway for the MOD.

I'm confused why they would send it thru steam? Is it what you use to make the models, or the meshes?

Yea, it's like the 3ds max on steroids.

I swear I read some where that they are going to make it available via download on STEAM.
OR< they are going to ship it on a cd with HL2, Which is what I would prefer along with the HL2 Shader Integration.

The EXP version will not work man, it's got big ugly red watermarks when you try to RENDER ANYTHING...they have to get the tools to us somehow.

Well , I found this...

Wyatt, an attendee of SIGRAPH 2003, sends word that during the show a version of SoftImage XSI was demonstrated that will be freely distributed after the release of Half-Life 2 to serve as a modification tool for the game. According to Wyatt the program will be fully supported by SoftImage and Valve. Also, Valve's Doug Lombardi sends word of plans for another Steam-powered Half-Life 2 movie release today, as well as word on their plans to expand the service:

Valve, creators of Half-Life and Counter-Strike, has partnered with Nvidia, Game-Storm.net, and a host of leading technology companies to deliver high-resolution trailers of the upcoming PC game Half-Life 2 via Steam, a broadband platform for direct software delivery and content management.

"Bugbait," the latest in a series of Half-Life 2 trailers, will be released today. Additional Half-Life 2 trailers, as well as more digital content from Valve, will be delivered to participants of the Steam beta over the coming weeks. Then, later this year, Half-Life 2 will be sold via Steam as well as in retail outlets the world over.

"The delivery of these trailers is just the beginning of several activities and offerings we will be making via Steam with these partners," said Gabe Newell, Valve's co-founder. "Steam will broaden our relationship with companies such as Nvidia, and allow us to extend new offerings and services to our customers in both the current and future generation of our products."
