Hey, I feel like starting a new thread so I was going to get your opinions on the attached.. the flames it seems are two-dimensional (of course) but you reckon they are like hl1 sprites where they like move with you and look the same whatever way you look at em, or you reckon if people are looking at it from multiple angles its constant, i'm curious if the flame have actual physical properties or if its just an effect over a sort of damage effect, like do you think the flame itself is what damages things and actually has to be touching/contact things? hrm.. let da' debating commence cause we have nothing better to do..!

oh yeah they are 2d, but It would look stupid with 3d flames, wouldnt it ?, or have I got a tottaly different image in my head ? :D

I doubt any game could render 3D fire anything closely similar to that quality. It would require a horrible amount of faces (that also can detach from the mesh on the move). I dont think it would be worth the time :)

Yes, show me a game with 3d flames, I can't even imagine how it will look like.

I imagine it would like close to real life.. Wait, what does fire look like from above in real life anyway?

/me scurries off to grab some paper and some matches.

Excuse me chaps, but could a particle engine produce the effect you are after? I think it could, but I'm most likely wrong.

2-3 planes with animated textures and alpha transparency maps plus particle effects

Well its Obvious that some people DONT know anything about Particles in game engines. Lol, hello people, knock knock, not everything is made in 2D sprites anymore.:upstare:
