Normaly the water would fade out close to the shore so you couldn't make out where it actually ends, but now for some reason it's turning black close to the shores, how do I fix this?

PS: I'm fairly sure this has been discussed previously, if anyone knows if this got solved or not, let me know.
Moderators may close this thread if that's the case, but please link me to that particular thread, because searching for threads where people complain about crappy water and finding my particular problem is like looking for a needle in a pile of hay.

It hasn't been solved, unfortunately.
I think it has something to do with Valve rewriting the water shaders to support HDR.

Oh good, as long as it isn't a fault at my end.

Some guy had it fixed by updating his drivers (Although that was nVidia). For ATi, try the Omega drivers (alternative drivers).

I tried changing to the Omega drivers as you said, but the issue remains. :bonce:

I've noticed the water "breaking" sometime during the summer holidays. I blamed new ATI drivers, but the problem remained after switching back to the old drivers...
It's most noticable in the water hazard levels. Based on your screenshots above, Murray, it looks like other levels are fine...

i have da same problems, only that my water is a tinge of yellow??? anyone know why this is?

Yeah, my water was yellow and somehow it's clear now, it might be because of upgraded drivers or many different things.

Yes: this is very common with you youngies- you pissed yourself. Please use the toilet before you play, as I'm getting sick of getting dead fish out of the water. Even if I do get a good price for them from loo sum wayt at the 'crazy noodle' takeaway store.

If you have an ATI graphics card, switching back to the 5.6 drivers resolves the problem.

At this moment there are two water bugs in HL2:
The first one is the so called AI bug ("dirty water"), it exists since cat. 5.7; it seems, that ATi's shader compiler has problems with HL2's water shader. Solution: turn off the AI or use catalyst 5.6. This bug may be fixed with cat. 6.1.
The second water bug is new, I hope, VALVe fix it next week.

Does Catalyst AI have any performance improvements? I always have it off, HL2 and FEAR usually crash with it enabled.

AI on includes some filtering optimisations and bug fixes. I have AI always on.
