Actually, the reason optical illusions exist is because our brains cheat like Nvidia does haha (I'm not bashing nvidia, I'm just drawing a parallel) Our brain makes assumption of what we see based on previous experience. Most of the time it works great. Optical illusions exploit its shortcuts. It's cool stuff.
