Number 1 rule of The Game: You are now playing The Game
Number 2 rule: As soon as you think about The Game, you lose
Number 3 rule: You must tell people you have lost whenever you lose The Game
Number 4 rule: You and everyone around you has a 10 minute period to forget about The Game after a loss

The unspoken rule: Once you start playing, you will never, ever be able to stop. Blame your unconscious mind.

"Loss is only temporary, and players begin winning again as soon as they forget about The Game."

Well... I lost again.

The rules are confusing. Do I lose every time my brain synapse sends a relay about "The Game"? That's like, a lot of losses.

A commonly played fourth rule (especially in the USA) is that following someone's loss, players gain immunity from losing for a certain amount of time (a 'grace period').

Tell your friends about it, then try to get them to lose by inserting "You lose The Game" post it notes in their binders, sending them "You Lose" emails, etc...

You'll forget about it sooner or later, but as soon as youll remember, you'll have lost. It'll be come clearer.

Now that you are aware of it, you must, and will participate, even if against your own will. It's psychologically interesting.

Yea...I guess you never really win.
This game is depressing :(

But this is really cool, because when I was little I came up with "The Forgetting Game," which is like "The Game" except the rules were different:

-The game starts when I think about the forgetting game
-So I start to think about something, like eggs.
-Then eventually I will start thinking about something else, like school.
-If I realize that I have successfully forgotten about eggs, I get a point, and The Forgetting Game continues.
-The game ends when I forget about the Forgetting Game for a significant amount of time...like 10 minutes or so.

Me and my flatmates play this all the time. But we don't do it in the rounds system. Whoever remembers just goes "Argh, I've just remembered I'm playing the game" and the rest of us call him names. And then we all forget.

It's funny because we remember for different reasons. I always remember whenever someone saying the word "game", but one of my flatmates always remembers whenever someone says anything about remembering.

We've been playing it for over a year now. And we've managed to spread it around a bit as well.

edit: Also, NotATool, you're a bastard for maybe me remember I'm playing it.

it doesn't matter if he remembered, because he already won it anyway.

I was expecting this to be about the awesome Michael Douglas movie.

I'm dissapointed.

Aw shucks. This game, again? I thought I saw the last of that game back in b3ta.

Base of operations? What do you mean?

I have lost it three times. I started playing four months ago.

DAMN YOU. We used to play this in Sixth Form :p

I love things like this, going to start playing now and getting everyone i know to play.

Around my area, if i go into Town and tell people about this, i promise it will spread, and eventually people will forget that i gave it to them, and praise somebody else for the invention.

God i hate people :|

Once I was in a course thing in Dublin and we were all introduced to the Game. Some of us were going to a match and on the way I said
"I hope it's a good game"
Everyone looked at me pissed off or cursed and it took me about 10 seconds before I realised what had happened.
