I hope HL2 isn't just released on steam on the 30th, then in boxed form later on.
If that's what valve is doing it would explain why Valve says it'll be released on the 30th and Vivindi says Holiday 2003.

Bring on the "stfu noob!!!!11!'s"

vivendi would whoop valves ass if they did that

Holiday 2003 is BS

but otherwise you're right. Steam is definatelly Sept. 30. Your local store - who knows

It's almost certainly part of Valve's contract that they are obligated to not release it on Steam until it gets into stores. If they were going to release a Steam version independent of the box version, they could release it the minute it went gold. Then Vivendi would get screwed out of 2 months of sales as people bought it over Steam instead of in store. Not going to happen.

I'm not sure how much say Vivendi has. They don't own Valve.

I certainly wouldn't complain if it came out on Steam first, I'm definately going for the Steam option. Physical copies are a thing of the past. :)

I like the idea of downloading hl2 off steam, but then there is nothing like owning the box. You know what I mean?

Well I certainly hope this isn't the case, I just finished paying off my Half-Life 2 pre-order at EB!

Did they quote you a price? If so how much?

Right now we have three SKUs planned at three price points. One will have single-player only and not play MODs and we think of that as the mass market SKU (sold mainly at the Costcos and Walmarts of the world). The second is our traditional single-player plus multiplayer SKU that runs MODs and is sold at places like EBX. The third is the collector's edition SKU with lots of cool bonus stuff for people who like cool bonus stuff.

Based on this (there's more in the info thread) it looks like there will be different versions available at different prices. I don't think prices have been confirmed so EB must be assuming a price, if you've paid it off. I'll be getting the collector's edition myself. I've put money down on a preorder, but I don't think EB actually know anything about the different editions.

If I understand your question correctly, and assuming you're not being sarcastic (I can never tell on here), I meant that I already paid the $50 plus tax so I don't have to worry about shelling out the remainder when I go pick it up. You see, I'm unemployed, and I'm also bad with money. Not a good combination. At least I have the sense to know that I'll commit suicide if I can't get it the day it comes out. So, you know, plan in advance and all that.

thanks for your answer.

Hmm I was just reading another thread about the e-mail I quoted earlier. Very suspicious, I think it's fake.

Edit: Well, it seems the e-mail has been verified true. Well I'll be! :cheese:
