You know you're a rip-off when

lol. It's one of many minecraft clones that have sprung up. I think Minecraft might kind of kickstart its own little genre.

Lol... that's something special.

I wonder why they didn't just hire Notch to port it so he'd roll around in some more money? The water does look pretty nice though.

At least Infiniminer stopped production before Notch took off and made millions. This is just a popularity clone...

My knee-jerk reaction was instant hate, but the community only has potential gain from this, I suppose. Just sucks that from the look of it all the creativity and originality Notch put into Minecraft's mechanics has been shamelessly carbon-copied.

Because that would be far more expensive, and Notch wouldn't do it anyway, because he's still making the game. Why or how would he port a game that is constantly being updated?

If Notch's "creativity and originality" translates to taking the low-resolution textures and world made of destructible cubes of different types from Infiniminer and combining it with Dwarf Fortress's adventure and world mechanics, then yeah, you're right. Notch has done well combining them and making Minecraft a fun game, but all of the highly-touted "innovations" in Minecraft are more or less "shamelessly carbon-copied" from other games.

Yeah, I suppose I have a smaller perspective having not played those other games.

Your perspective is puny compared to almighty Ennui.

The Aztecs discovered chocolate and peanut butter, but Mr. Reese was the badass who put them together and road that rolled right in to awesometown.

Fail analogy. Reese did nothing in the chocolate industry but throw random combinations of ingredients together. Here's a much better analogy: Notch is like Henri Nestle, the inventor of milk chocolate. Before him, chocolate was consumed mostly as a raw powder that was bitter. Most people couldn't stand it. Nestle got the smarts to dull the edge and smooth it with milk, chocolate became edible for the masses (O LOL IN THAT ANALOGY MINECRAFT IS THE CASUAL GAME AND DF IS FOR HARDCORE MANLY MEN LOLOL).

Fail response. I never meant for it to be an analogy, I was merely stating that someone can make something awesome from already good things. It was supposed to be funny, but you got all up on it like it was a big deal.

Looks very nice. Good ideas are destined to give birth to better and better implementations. That's the way games evolve.

Dear Starbob,

Whether you wanted it to be an analogy or not, it was:

Analogy is a cognitive process of transferring information or meaning from a particular subject (the analogue or source) to another particular subject (the target), and a linguistic expression corresponding to such a process. In a narrower sense, analogy is an inference or an argument from one particular to another particular
I'm on your ass because I want you to think before they post. Even jokes need to make logical sense. And as a joke, it was pretty uninformed.

Sincerely,

This looks like a much prettier, consolized version of Minecraft.

I am unimpressed.

Thereby making the best god damn candy treat in the world.

You're just mad at notch because nobody was impressed with whatever the **** that thing you were building in the ocean was when people still played minecraft here.

Guy making this has a Q&A thread in the minecraft forums. He seems pretty nice. He says he's heavily influenced by Dwarf Fortress so this is probably going to have you being able to order around minions and trade with NPCs.

Nobody is making a cooler minecraft inspired clone than 3D Buzz.

Their game is for educational purposes though, and they're going different and way beyond what minecraft is. Not a better game per se, since I don't know... but it's being developed for educational purposes and of course won't be competing.

Of course it started basically trying to realize the general concept and then all the technical details about how to tackle the complex subject of having a world filled with millions of blocks without performance issues.
