“They can see everything up there. They can read the headline on a newspaper being held by someone eating lunch in the park,” states Tom. To strive for anonymity we have assigned our expert the name Tom. Tom is a retired digital optics developer. He has worked with NASA on Hubble, NEAR and all camera equipment on the latest Mars missions. “After finding out what they were using my technology for I decided to go into hiding.” When Tom refers to “They” he means the American government. Apparently the Civil Observation Patrol Satellites (COPS) have a hard time peering through the Smokey Mountain mists into a deep valley where Tom currently lives. “Don’t get me wrong. They could occasionally see me by using the infrared spectrum, but the most they will find is a common civilian taking care of his garden.” It’s a lonely life for Tom residing in the shadows of mountains but he feels he would be in danger if the U.S. government found him. Tom gave us permission to generally reveal where he lives only because he will no longer live in the Smokey Mountains by the time this article is up on our site. He is leaving the country in hopes to start a new, more public life with a new name and identity. Tom wanted to give one last warning to the world before he could speak no more.

Any thoughts? Is the national exposer to be trusted or are they just bullshiting us? Or is it the government? discuss!

Damn goverment spying on my games of hide and seek ;(

So they can see me doing my special thing in my special place, oh poo.

Lucky I have this neat little invention installed at my house...

It's called a "roof".

The whole «spy satelites that can everything down here» theories are bullshit...
There are 20 to 50 American spy sattlites in space, not nearly enough to cover the world.
The smallest thing the best spy sat. can distinguish today is a dog. It is impossible to them to recognize faces with sattelites sincemost of its major distinguishable caracteristics are smaller than a mice. And reading your daily newspaper is still far, far away...
And infrared is used to locate missile launches, it can't locate anything with such a low body temp as us since some times weather is way hotter.

What people really need to be aware of is the Echelon program that however unadmitted, is something like Israeli nukes. Some doubt because of disinformation but the whole thing is regularly mentioned on a respectable basis in respectable mag's. It allows the US\UK\Canada conglomerate to check nearly 70% of the world's communication's for suspected combinations and other things. I don't even care about spyware anymore, what do I have to hide?

Looks like he looking at his watch.

It wouldn't be possible for them to track one person during his whole daily activity. For a sattelite to stay in orbit (or anything else for that matter), it needs to make rotations around the earth. If it is standing still over one spot, it would either fall, or fly off into space. Just like the moon. Plus it would take too much energy to keep it in one spot, or too move it around fast enough like if someone is flying by plane somewhere or driving his car all over the city.

So because it must go around the earth, there's like 60% of the time that's it not directly (or almost) overhead, so it can't see you. The government would need quite a few sattelites to track you properly, and a coordinated effort to keep watch them all at the right times (think NASA control room), and all this means lots and lots of man hours.

Now just ask yourself, are you really THAT important?

Sattelites are perfectly possible to remain in the same place over the Earth over their activity time. They put on geostationary orbits so that they're so far from Earth that they can't be pulled in going the same speed as the Earth's rotation

Um you can have a satelite to hover over one spot on the earth, thats called a geo stationary orbit... all tele com satelites and tv sats are geo stat.

The reason spy sats move is because they couldn't otherwise cover the world as you said.

Oh. Alright. But if it's so far away, that means it can't see as much detail, right?

Well it's not THAT much further up in space...

True, true. Believe me, they see everything. What, how did I know? Well, my friend's friend's third uncle twice removed heard it from a tramp who was a government agent.
National Exposer: officially dubious.

Well if they can see what I can do, and they actually DO watch me all the time, then I don't think I care. I'm not a terrorist or anything. And it's not like they make fun of me for what I do (atleast not to my face). As long as I have my freedom, it's fine by me.

Besides, it's useful for national security, and voyeur websites, all in one, eh?

God damn ! Read my post !
It is impossible! No sat can distinguish more than a dog!

Sure we are! But that's not the point! They can see people but they can't recognize them! That what they're for! to spot troop moviments!
And they have only 2 or 3 spy sattelites over the US, most of them are over Russia, Middle East and Norteast Asia.

Also Europe has 2 or 3 too only over sensitive spots like German missile launchers (placed before the fall of the wall) and major cities.

For example - London, Berlin, New York\Washington have spy sattelites above them.

And most of the known ICBM launching sites in China and Russia (and recently N. Korea and Iran) have infrared early waring sattelites above them.

How do you know all this? Are you authorized to give us this information?

This is pure common knowledge! The whole thing was admited by the Reagan Admin.

LOL...yeah all the details of the government's spy satellite program are common knowledge, of course!!!

you're already stupid for saying "the reagan admin."
even if the reagan administration told the complete truth...THAT WAS 20 YEARS AGO.

in all reality though, if you do the math using the wavelength of light and all the computations for resolution, etc...a 1mm resolution at normal satellite distance would require a 240m lens or something huge like that...so no, nobody's reading over your shoulder.

and even so...who cares if the gov't can read your newspaper or the brand name off your cigarette? oh nos! the gov't saw me walk to class or go to work today!! noooooooooo

I meant the fact that there are infrared sat's on Russian and other ICBM launching pads and also over major NATO and Allied populacional centers. The rest is from various sources.

And thanks for the support on the fact the Gov. can't have spy sattelites reading our papers since they're too small.

But it's more of a worry if you are, like me, a wanted man.

i'm pretty sure littleB was referring to the resolution part...but whatever...nobody's spying on you, people...go about your business...people see movies like Enemy of the State and they think the gov't is out to get them...curb your paranoia and fear plz :\

Well then you deserve to be spied on....:p

Seriously though, if you really have commited a crime, then you cant really complain about the government spying on you.

I'm sorry to inform that the currently active Echelon NSA program is reportedly capable to monitor (and record if necessary) nearly 70% of the world's digital communications.

But whatever, what is there to hide?

We shouldnt be asking "what is there we have to hide?" but "why would/do they want to watch our every task of life?" To me i dont like the idea of someone looking over my shoulder even if i dont have something to hide, it isnt that i suspect them to find me doing something i dont want them too, but it makes me suspect them for having to spy on me when they have no reason too. Everyone should be entitled to their privacy, thats one of the main ideas behind America isnt it? That we would never have troops standing on street corners and coming into our house randomly to check us for no reason. Them doing this is only the modern day equivelent of that very thing.

Yeah, and lucky I have my penis... wait, what?

Damn.

Let me also state that I dont neccesarily believe what the National Exposer puts on its site, since they wont site their sources they can throw anything at us. Plus they have a defense for not siting their "sources" if they did they might just be hunted down from the government! Perfect excuse, hiding in the dark with all exits covered :frown:. The idea of the thread is mainly to talk about privacy and how this would/could affect ours if it were/is real.

So, let me get this straight. A satellite can see you when you are outside, which is where everyone else can see you (unless your behind a bush or something) which is called public. Wait, so now the government can not only see my face from the ground but also my bald spot from space. Seeing as how I am an extremely important person they will most certainly use a very expensive satellite to look at my bald spot.

Thats what I got out of the quote he pasted.

Nope SUPPOSEDLY they can watch your every move with X-ray and Heat Vision, not to flame or sound like a ass but you should read the entire article before attacking it.

Who cares about a satellite when you are being watched by 1,000 surveilance cameras every day! They are everywhere, just stop and look around.

Fortunatelly they can be easily disabled with a pocket laser :cheese:

sattelites are not even close to the same thing as troops on the street corner...please don't even try to compare the two...
sattelite imagery isn't good enough to tell exactly what you're doing...on any spectrum...especially on non-visible light spectrums. they could probably tell if you were in bed fcking or if you were in your kitchen cooking or something...but that's as specific as it could get...

and i GUARANTEE that the government isn't watching YOU sit on your computer and play video games...it would have NO point whatsoever. the only reason they would use spy sattelites to track what you're doing is if they got some benefit from doing it...like stopping you from doing something illegal.

it's not like they're using the sattelites for market research or something...wtf.

The whole X-ray is impossible because it causes cancer and if they did have sattelites that would send X-rays down here we would have everyone withcancer at the age of 5...
And even if they did to see you in X-ray they would need to remove every rock around you since they can't distinguish a rock from you...

And thermal is equally unnefective since many regions in the world have higher temp's than your normal body temp. and it's , again , impossible to distinguish between objects and ppl. The infrared(thermal vision) sattelites are placed over missile launch sites for early warning and that's their only actual use.

So ECHELON is the only real danger to your privacy but you can be safe from them if you don't say words like bomb on comm's. But if you do they reportedly record your conversation for human analysis. And if it's something like - «We'll nuke Washington and kill the President» - they'll probably put you on their watch list. And that means that every communication you make will be watched.

But its expected the tech you're talking about in 50 to 70 years so then you'll probaly be right.

Edit - And this is also a major danger to privacy.

And Lonederanger, most cameras today record in low light spectrum (all blue remember) vision combination so your laser does nothing to them.

Sprafa, you really sound like a secret agent. Did you detect us with your blue ray camera and satellite with X-ray combined with the echelon-programme ? You did, didn't you?

o/t, I think the privacy thing will get much worse. In the name of fear, a lot of freedom could be sacrificed, and I don't think it's a good thing at all.

But hey, we'll see.

Look I'm not even gonna post anymore.
If you read a lot and watched lots of documentaries like me you would all know these things.
Now if that «5th grade» thing is supposed to point out my spelling/grammar errors I warn you that I know 5 different languages (portuguese, french, spanish, english and a little romenian ) so a few errors are acceptable.
