So I was skimming over Eurogamers top 50 games of 2008 and found that I had played a grand total of 4 of them. As I looked over my gaming year I realised that the I could probably count the number of games I played on two hands (maybe three) and the games I actually finished on one.

There are a few reasons for this (being an exclusive PC gamer doesn't help) but the biggest is that my gaming time is just so concentrated into a few titles that I don't have time to try out other games. So despite my large collection of "will finish", "have bought" and "might buys" most of my gaming time really only goes into a few titles which pushes everything else to the wayside.

Am I the only one like this, a "dense" gamer? Obviously I really enjoy the games I sink most of my gaming time into but around this time of year when people are coming out with their top 10's of the year and I've only played 4 I lament my lack of variety.

Poll's up.
don't go by others standards
I don't and it's not like I really regret my dense gaming lifestyle, I've thoroughly enjoyed every hour I've sunk into TF2 and recently L4D. It's just sometimes I feel I'm missing out by not even trying the other games that a lot of people seem to love.

Only played 10 of the games on Eursgamers top 50. However I could easily make my own top 50. Their list only accounts for western releases (i.e. if it's not in English they can't review it).

^ I thought EG did import reviews? Probably only for major releases, though.

I'm a pretty sparse gamer. I try to play as much as I can, but I haven't been finishing too many of late. They'll either wear on me or something else will catch my attention, heh. I also have a knack for losing interest in games when little things about them start to bug me, especially RPGs as they always seem to screw up some aspect of the combat or leveling system or something.

I don't really know how to answer this one. On the one hand, I've played at least over one thousand games across consoles and the PC. But that being said, there's maybe...twenty or less games that I have spent an obsessive amount of time on. Years.

Most of the time I just get something, finish it, set it aside and move onto the next thing, unless it captures my interest enough to bring me back to it. I don't consider that to be a lot of gaming time though...most of my time spent on games IS actually with those games that I enjoy. I don't know what to vote on this one.

Thiis is the first year I have had too many new games to be able to decide what to play next. I'm like in CH5 of ninja gaiden 2, around 35% done with GTA4, yet I keep going back to L4D to play Versus and coop constantly. I'm also at around 60% on Dead Space... and I have DMC4, Condemned 2, and GoW all sitting there waiting for me to finish.

And yet I keep thinking about buying some new games with some giftcards I got. Wtf is wrong with me?

I think I bought about 4 games this year. Haven't come close to finishing any of them, probably will only play 1 or 2 of them ever again. The time I choose to dedicate to gaming plunges every year and now it's about 2 hours a week. Just enough time for a few co-op rounds of Resistance 2. It's strange, it seems like reading about upcoming games, watching teasers, etc. is a less boring experience than actually playing the finished products.

Voted Dense only because I play so few games, all of my gaming time is spent on just a few.

I've got about 15 games installed now, and I play them all

I suppose the second one, I do play alot of different games and there are certainly games I will play that after finishing them just go back on the shelf :|

You are a consumer. Welcome to the machine.

Personally, I rarely play that many games anymore. Even with my gametap account I'm still not playing tons of anything simply cause I hate feeling like I'm throwing my time away on something when I could be more productive. I guess when I get to a point where I'm more lax about how I spend my time, then I'll go back to the way I was..throwing hours away on a game with buddies.
On the other hand, my variety of games I mess around with is pretty high thanks to me buying everything super cheap...seriously why do you people even bother paying 50 bucks for a game anymore??

Dense, mainly because i only really play games that i think are worth playing. Usually it turns out i'm wrong though.

I usually devote most my time on one game at a time, like over the summer all I played was CoD 4. But now I am crossed between L4D, Condemned and WaW, only just completed the latest Hitman the other day.

I usually spend a lot of my gaming time with a select few games, too. I'm open to almost anything, but very little of that big, pricey expanse actually holds my attention.

But once something catches my eye, I am all over that like a fly on a very seductive pile of manure.

Mostly Sparse but i played Counter-Strike and Half-Life for like 5-6 years. Just check out the collection!

Even tho the past few months iv been really not playing anything.

Basically the same for me. I play lots of different games, but a handful of them get played A LOT more than the others.

If there's a game I'm going to buy and there's a collector's edition, I generally end up getting the collector's edition. I am a gigantic sucker for swag, especially things like figurines, soundtracks, artbooks...especially the artbooks.

Man, on February 17th Street Fighter IV comes out, and the collector's edition is $79, PLUS $130 for the premium SFIV arcade stick.

I buy the collector's edition of games that I REALLY REALLY ****ING OMG WANT

Last one I got was HL2 prolly. I don't know why you'd buy collector's editions for a majority of your games though...

Dense, I play so much games at one point, I still have games (awesome ones) that I've never even finished..

^For the record, I got MK vs. DCU Kollectors Edition for the same price as the game itself, at Wal-Mart no less.

both. i voted sparse because i do play a lot of games, I've probably gotten at least 15 new games in 2008, but in reality I'm dense because while I play through and beat things like Crysis or COD5 or Far Cry 2, I always go back to (and spend WAY more time on) games like L4D, DOD:S, TF2, and CS:S.

With my ps2 I had loads of games which most I never completed, but my xbox360 most the games I play on there have replay value so I go through them time after time, I'm playing half life 2 for the 4th time while waiting to be able to afford left 4 dead or gears of war 2

Yes soundtracks are the shit, I love the mgs, sh, me, re, hl soundtracks...got any suggestions?

I play very few games, but I do play the shit out of em.

Team Fortress 2
Left 4 Dead

There are other games that I buy, play obsessively until I beat, then I'll come back and play them once in a while.

IE: Wii/N64 Games

I've got a shit ton of games...only play about 5. I have no urge to go and get any other games at the moment.

I really only play WAW, COD4, L4D, and FC2. There are tons of games i would like to play but either A) Don't have the hard drive space or B) Have hundreds of dollars to shell out each year to keep up with new game releases.

Dense, i barely play on anything other than CoD5, i play on the onlie multiplayer all the time
