That graphics card is gonna suck for HL2. GF4MXs are not the same as GF4TIs. The MX version has basically the feature set of a GF2. Get rid of it and get a decent vid card and you'll have a much better experience.

Myself, I'll be on my AMD XP2000+, 512MB, nVidia ti4200 for a few months (waiting for next line of video cards to come out) but I'll be playing on a 7' diagnol screen. :p

Really, the only thing you need to upgrade is the VID card. You should run it really well if you can scrap up a 9600PRO. And thanks.

I doubt your non custom built machine could take my custom monster in a battle of benchmarks.

*Pulls out lightsabre*

Thanks for the info sixxhole, i was thinking the samething. I was also considering buying some surroundsound+new audio card or new harddrive. but since HL2 is coming, i can do without as long as i get good performance

Or we could not waste our money on outrageously over tricked computers?

Wee, system spec thread.

AMD AthlonXP 2600+
512mb DDR PC-3200
GeForce 4 ti4600 128mb
Western Digital 80GB HD 7200rpm w/ 8mb cache
Sound Blaster Audigy 1

cool, I thread to brag about my monster in ;)

MoBo: Abit NF7-S Rev 2
CPU: Barton 2500+ @ 2.4ghz (200fsb x 12), 2v vcore
cooling: Watercooled (Ehiem 1250> BIX rad > DD Maze3 > bayres, 1/2" ID tygon tubing all around), 2x 120mm vantec stealth fans in the side, 1x 80mm 3dcool.com fan exast, and a chrome-look 80cfm 120mm fan on my radiator mounted on top of my case
video: powercooler 9800 pro 128mb, 416 core (I can run it up to 441 core, but I get artifacting) 380 memory
memory: 2x 512mb corsair PC3200 running dual channel
audio: M-Audio Revolution (for gaming) > custom Meta42 headphone amp, with kevin gilmore design psu > Grado SR-325's, for music I use a seperate card, M-Audio Audiophile 2496.
Storage: IBM 120gxp 80gb, and older IBM 80gxp 30gb, still using a rather old 12x plextor CDburner
Case: 3dcool.com tornado 1000, painted and polished to a mirror finish (along with all drive plates) w/ duplicolor green/purple mirage paint (yup, it changes colors!, very cool, with I had some pics)
PSU: using a vantec stealth 420w, not very happy with it, 12v line 1/2 volt off, 5v and 3.3v line are stable and accurate, but its also noisy, and dispite the name and the manufacter, it does not use vantec stealth fans ... heh
OS: Windows 2000 SP4
perhipreals: 19" veiwsonic A90, Logitex dual optical riding an everglide optical pad, cheap-o memorex keyboard (I prefer to the feel of it vs. the $50 M$ keyboards ... heh)
oh ya, and a got a USB - PS2 controler adapter mounted into one of my floppy drive bays, but that really isnt gonna effect me in HL2.

thats ma monster, pretty happy with it, I would like to get a waterblock on my 9800 thou, and either waterblock or heatsink my ram chips.

Alienware Aurora
AMD XP 2100
1GB XMS Corsair PC2400
GeForce 4 4600

Radeon 9700NP@325/310(basically a pro)
512 pc 3500

overclocking is the way to go, cant believe someone would pay over $500 for a cpu

Wow this thread has no discussion. Look my pc's spec's take up more space when I list them then yours do!! That means mine's better!!

anyone gonna have the steam logo on their window panel of their case? lol.

hell ya man, its crazy what some people spend to get the best only to be bested by someone with a chip less then 1/2 the price

when the bartons first came out, the 3000+'s were topping out on overclocks about there the 2500+'s were, so I picked up a 2500+ for only $120, I want to get a newer stepping thou, casue im seeing a lot more people hit 2.5 and 2.6 with the newer ones, and I gota buddy who runs a p4 2.4c @ 3.3ghz, or 3.4, somewhere bout there

overclocking is it, the performance to price ratio is great, plus its exciting to get a new piece of hardware and push it to its limits

yea my 2500+ competes with some 3.2 p-IV's with the same vid card. im air cooled though...with water i expected to see atleast 2.5ghz nuchaz..
