Your thoughts on these operating systems (Win2k vs. WinXP)

What are you thoughts on these two operating systems for gaming?
For gaming I would without a doubt pick Win2k.
IMO Win2k uses less processor speed then XP (XP has all of that graphical crap), also I think Win2k is alot more stable, the few times that I actually loaded XP on my hard-drive, I was very disapointed at the fact that it wasn't very stable, and kind of flimsy compared to Win2k.

But if I were not a gamer, just used a computer for business, work thing then I would actually pick WinXP, just for the fact that it is newer, and also the Pro version comes with stuff like WinZip, and automatically detects network settings, unlike 2k where I have to manually install .net drivers, and config the network.

Post your opinions, please don't flame me based on my opinions.

FLAME FLAME FLAM HBAHAHAH

-_-

I use the XP home edition and I'm fine with it. The only real problem I have is that I only have 512MB of RAM. I think that if you were to get maybe 1 GB of RAM then you would have no problems while playing.

i use win xp... windows2k is much worse for gaming.

and xp doesnt have all that graphical crap when you... turn them off.

win2k pwns. so much nicer.... it's winxp without all the sht you don't need.

I do have 1gb of RAM, and I've never had a problem with XP Home. I've never encountered any stability or performance issues, and while I can't do a direct comparison to 2k I can't imagine it could be that much better, at least in my situation.

My windows 2K never crashes. Very stable.
But i wonder if XP has a better support for gaming...

w2k has MUCH less overhead, hence lower minimum systems than XP,-- i can run w2k on an AMD K6-3 450mhz w/32mb ram! but you can tweak xp back to that point if you like as well, if you are willing to poke around , BTW curent patched versoins of XP are actually closer to w2k3 than w2k, so i think thats a closer comparison.
all three are very stable IF you dont abuse your shell / kernel config.

You have no clue :-/

yep youre right i have no clue. for networking and business use win2k is better, i know that from having set up a 350+ network of machines with win2k and xp. but gaming is different, because 2k is designed with a workstation and a server in mind. the end user does better off with xp as its more hardware friendly, and it was designed specifically with gaming in mind. i exadderated the improvement (2k does not suck for games) but xp is better.

edit: and the "overhead" that xp has is bs, if your computer is properly maintained and visual enhancements are turned off xp has a small overhead.

I like XP because it's the latest and greatest(IMHO). When longhorn comes out I'm gonna buy that, because it will be up to date with the times. Not to mention it sounds damn cool from what I've read.

While I could really care less if I had Win2k or WinXP since they are the same base, I would perfer WinXP because it does add some nifty features.
I can leave as much of it enabled or disable what I don't want (E.I. make it less graphical).

Although I would actually rather have Win2k3. ;)

I use Winxp Pro edition.
although I use it just because its the latest (and has extra net/admin options for my lan)
not because of any speed increase

however I dont really see a difference in gaming (I own win2k, win98, winME, and Winxp Pro)
then again my hardware is top notch... I think ya should make sure the hardware is up to snuff before ya go out and get another OS :P

I agree, Wink2k3 all the way :)
However, if I had to choose.. Win2k

I have Win XP Pro, and I think it's the most stable for games. I also like the fact that it automatically detects and installs a lot of hardware, and other various things. It seems intelligent in that respect.

I have only one thing to say, microsoft sucks.
btw I use xp pro, its probobly the most stable.

well, in a perfect world, someone would figure out how to fake directX in linux, and i'd jsut run gentoo.
