Today I got an e-mail.

A copyright owner has claimed it owns some or all of the audio content in your video. The audio content identified in your video is Just Stop by Disturbed. We regret to inform you that your video has been blocked from playback due to a music rights issue.

I thought maybe whoever is their publisher decided to sweep the tubes for their stuff and block it, but there still are working videos with their music (and that particular song) that probably have more views than my video had anyway.

WTF. How does that work? Is this some random action? Does The YouTube Content Identification Team randomly pick videos to check for copyright infringement?

I really don't know, but it's damn annoying. :upstare: It's not like we're using it to earn money, and if you credit it in your "video info" then I think it's unfair that you can't use it, especially if you've bought the album.

The whole youtube thing is BS IMO.

Pffft that's nothing. I have about 30 counts of copyright infringement from Youtube.

Heh, I only got one similar mail for a Red Alert 2 trailer I copy pasted to youtube from gamespot.

However in the mail, they just said that "big brother" EA knows about it and that they will be notified about the traffic on this particular video.
But didn't block access to it or deman that I remove it. So I don't give a shit.

waiting for them to notice I uploaded all of Commentary The Musical.

I am curious if you change the name of the song in your video before you upload it if the copyright blocker will still detect it? The same thing happened to me for a video i uploaded that had Troublemaker by Weezer; only it detected it immediately so that has led me to believe there is some sort of software that scans your video for .mp3s/any song format and then determines if they are copyrighted.

I think the copyright stuff is pretty stupid--as long as you aren't saying "hey guise look at this cool song i made" it should be fine. I mean, shouldn't artists want you to make videos with their songs in them?

It's like in Restaurants
You have to pay a small Royalty(Right word?) to be able to sing Happy Birthday to someone

if you add a link to the artist's site or something do you think they would allow it?

Heh, YouTube was like

The audio content identified in your video is Just Stop by Disturbed.

and I'm like

No shit, I identified it for you in the credits.

I love it when supposedly rebellious bands end up relying on shitty corporate-biased legislation to try to milk pennies out of people.

I just felt like saying that, even though I know it's the label's doing, not the band's...

Tell them to go hang, reupload it under another account or whatever.

This happened to me, with some game video I made a couple years ago, adding a Jimmy Eat World track to it and an Oasis song. I got an email saying the infringement was because of the JEW song and the video was removed (like 2 years after it originally went up), but nothing said about the Oasis song, and both were credited at the end of the video, no links in description though. No idea what it's all about, I have another video which uses a Muse song which is apparently fine!? lol...

They can scan videos/audio to see if it matches others that have been removed for copyright infringement previously. The best thing would be to edit it with Audacity before you upload.

The whole site's just software robots. There are no humans making decisions. If a copyright claim comes from a registered source then it'll get removed straight away. I think the staff only look at the videos themselves if there is a complaint with something being wrongly removed or in other special cases... Someone posted a court case transcript thingy that explained it all a while ago.

You guys are lucky you just got a warning. I got my account deleted straight away. Maybe they've changed their rules since then.

Some people have had success typing in the name of say...a movie backwards to keep youtube from finding it. Type "A scanner Darkly" in backwards and you'll see what I mean.
Anyways I dont see the point of trying to stop anyone, you might as well shut down the internet cause as soon as you take 1 off ten more are gonna pop up.

On the plus side, its fvckin disturbed dude get an autograph! \o/

Edit - Ah, haha, what a comical misunderstanding. Please ignore:

Why would their being religious have anything to do with protecting their copyrights?

Also, Disturbed is religious? :|

Heh, YouTube was like

The audio content identified in your video is Just Stop by Disturbed. What the **** man, Disturbed?

I'm blocking this shit because you suck.

Fixed.

Probably bad luck, to be honest. Sucks though.
