Well I'm sick of my POS Thermaltake 6 Cu, its louder than it is rated which is like 31Dbs when it really sounds like 60dbs for some unknown reason. I've decided to get the Zalman CNPS7000A-ALCU because its extremely quiet and can cool good, Are there any other HSF that can perform that good? I'm about to order the Zalman and I don't wanna find out later that it was a bad choice. Is it a good one to OC with? I'm planning to get a +2500 and try to OC it to a +3200, would that be capable with it?

Zalman heatsinks are very good.
An alternative would be Thermalright heatsinks. They give slightly better cooling with a similarly rated fan.

Thermaltake is for the mainstream who have just heard of better cooling yet don't know what it is. ;) lol

Just make sure the HS will fit on your board.

I currently have Zalman CNPS7000A-CU (the all copper one), it performs pretty well, but I still need to wait another 125 hours or so to see how much my tempertures lower (because of Artic Silver 5). It is very quiet, but you need to install a switch to make it run in silent mode.

Also, you need to check for motherboard compatability to make sure the heatsink will fit properly. One other warning, it is heavier than what is recommended for most motherboards. You should not get this heatsink if you plan on moving your computer case around. It will be fine if you usually leave your computer in one place.

As for overclocking, it really depends on your heatsink and your processor. I have a decent heatsink, but my processor isn't very overclockable. Luck plays a huge role in determining how much you can overclock your CPU.

This is my definition of better cooling : http://www.tomshardware.com/cpu/20031230/index.html ;)

I like Thermaltake, does anybody care? Of course not!

I already checked the compatability site and pulled out a ruler to check out my case and the fan is like 6mm from my PSU so I should be ok. The weight thing I'm still kinda scared about because I often lug my case around to lans. On the 462 compatability list it says "Compatible with motherboards having the mounting holes", does that mean I can use the mounting holes instead of the clip support that they show? Site looks like it was bablefished so its kinda confusing.

swiftech aren't too bad if you can find them. I run mine with a silenx fan and it cools a p4 quite well, plus it's quiter than the hercules 9800pro which is fairly impressive in itself.

I've had my fair share use of Thermaltake HSFs. I have a Volcano 7 and 11 in my pile of used hardware that once were in use.

They just don't cool as well as other solutions and are very loud to be very effective. Someone can like Thermaltake and I don't mind if they do, just like someone can like McDonalds' hamburgers. ;)

The Zalman heatsink uses the clip supports and the mounting holes. If you are planning on going to lans, I would find another heatsink.

Now that the zalman is outta the question, Whats a good HSF ranging from $30-40? The really good swiftech is 40 bucks w/o a fan. I really dont wanna go through the trouble of buying the MCX462 and a seperate fan and end up having really bad results. I was looking at the Vantec Aerocool one but I've heard a lot of bad stuff about the fan just taking a big crap on the computer. Theres just so many damn HSFs that its hard to find a really good one.

Well sorry about bringing this topic back up but now I need a reccomendation on a fan. I've decided to get the 947, found it for half the price newegg is selling it for, so that is a big plus for me. I've been looking at the panaflo fans and I've heard those are the ones with the best cfg/noise ratio. I definitely wanna get a 92mm fan for the sake of noise, anyone know a good site to get them from? The thing now is I don't know whether to get a really quiet one or a fast one and apply a simple rheostat to it, would it perform the same as the low noise one? If it performs the same and is insanely quiet then I'll want to bump it up to OC it.

There's nothing wrong with that zalman, I've been using it for months, it's been perfect. I'm not running it in "silent mode" but what's the point in that when I can't even hear it anyway? The fans of the power supply are louder than the fan on the heatsink, and the PSU is a Vantec Steath 520, so that tells you something about how quiet it is. Cools very well for the noise too, idles at 41, loads at 48

Well is yours a pentium? Because the Socket A method of holding the zalman in doesn't seem like a safe holder, since I carry my case around to lans I do not want have the Zalman and have it end up falling off and possibly pulling my processor along with it.

So does anyone know where I can buy the Panaflo 92mm High at a decent price?

Sorry but I gotta bump this thread, I still cannot find a site that is selling a Panaflo 92mm High for a decent price. Most of the good sites don't have them in stock and all the other sites have shipping almost more than the fan its self. Or does anyone know some good coupons to use to lower the prices down?? The 947 will arrive in a few days so I'd like to have a fan that can work with it. So please does anyone know a site that is selling the Panaflo 92mm High fan for a decent price??

I would suggest getting a Panaflo 80mm since you can get one that will be just as quiet.
The cooling will be actually more efficent with the 80mm since all the air will go through the fins.
A 92mm would push a lot of the air just on the side of the heatsink which doesn't do much good, now does it?
