Its the First California Summer for my new Computer, game stalls became more annoying as the house heated up with outside triple digit heat, my case temperature was fine and I began searching my issue, I decided to check the temperature of my ATI Radeon X800 XL, I opened up ATI Tool and was frightened at the Temp.
I was at 51-Celsius, or 123.8-Fahrenheit
I dunno what a normal Video card temperature is but I did not like this
I continued my test and ran HL2-Ep1 until it started to stutter and slow, I closed to desktop and saw the Video card temp at
67-Celsius / 152.1-Fahrenheit
So Frys Electronics I go
I searched through for a compatible fan and picked up the Zalman VF700 for $30
here is how the install went
this is the inbox of whats included
The Card pulled out and original look
The kit came with thermal grease, I used my Arctic Silver instead
After removing all the parts from the card I installed the screw adapters that the heatsink connects too
After cleaning off the ram on the card I came to a problem installing their new heatsinks, on one it did not have room with the zalman back brace, I just bent the one prong down and problem solved
All the heatsinks on the back on, they apply with a thermal tape under them, so make sure you clean the ram on the card well for good attachment.
The topside's turn, no clearance problems here, so all installed perfect.
New Fan and heatsink attached.
See the size and width needed now, note that after this is done if you have PCI slots next to the card's, you will have to leave the one next to the card open cause the new fan fills the space.
This is the power connection for the fan, it comes with two 5v connectors and 2 12v connectors. I plugged into the Black 12v to get the most out of the fan.
Foxy Machine back together.
Only loss was the solder to the wire on my Purple UV lights broke, can fix later.
Now the after results, letting the computer sit for an hour the temperature is an even 35-Celsius / 95-Fahrenheit
Back into the game I played for a bit with no stalling or crashes, I ran around blasted and gave the Video card something to work with, I then exited out and checked the temperature at only
51-Celsius / 123.8-Fahrenheit
so, seems to help out a bit and performs better then the stock cooling on the card, stalling has been minimized, I'm happy :smoking:
