hehe. I only watch the anime, seen my friends play the games, only looks gimmicky.

I've played two levels of it at a friends' house, so I can't guess fairly whether or not he's hit the spot. I can't imagine that he's far off. :p

I'll have to get some Jet for Audiosurf now.

Another good one.

EDIT: I have this weird feeling after watching the video... the week Yahtzee pans dice rolling in a game is the week Gary Gygax died.

ooh I didn't even finish the anime I thought it was horrible :|

The worst part about the game was the way they reused the whispering woman "Devil may cry" effect three times on the main menu.

I've suspected for a while that Yahtzee, despite being a funny dude, is a bit of nub. He's the kid he got whopped by his mates over and over again at SF2 and decided to that he'd show them all with witty and cutting reviews! ahahahaha!

He always funny, but doesn't always get the game in question.

I quite enjoyed the game, although some points are very valid. The sections they put in that can just be annoying. I actually died doing a puzzle. I killed all the enemies then died trying to jump from a slowed-down set of giantic spinning blades onto a tiny ledge, where it speeds it up again seemingly at random.

Beating the shit out of an old man with your freaky arm was very satisfying though.

Funny review as always!

Has he EVER reviewed a game that he thought was great, or is he negative towards all games in general? If so, please tell me the games name so I can watch the review or please link to it. I watched his COD4 review & he seemed to think it was ok.

Orange box
call of duty 4
psychonauts
mario galaxy (generally)
crysis (generally)

I've disagreed with a couple of his reviews recently but this one is spot-on dead center accurate. If anything he went easy on the game, which is understandable. It is legitimately difficult to put words to the putrid heap of retardation that is Devil May Cry.

The closing line about spiders, wasps, gummy bears and Slipknot made me crease up.

Of course he has. Portal, Psychonauts, COD4, Bioshock and more.. but especially Portal
Despite the sarcastic tone in his reviews, if you can read between the lines you'll find that he actually likes a lot of the games he reviews.

He didn't really like bioshock

Also although I like his jab at franchises being rung out (except BTTF) I still liked batman and die hard :|

(I do agree with the "his dark materials" franchise though I didn't like the last book as much as the other two)

Yup, sounds pretty much accurate. I'll still love it anyway, but what have you.

Portal. He loved portal. Oh and he thought COD4 was pretty good.

In my opinion, that was one of his best.

The part about the platform jumping made me laugh out extremely loud.

I don't think he's trying to have anyone take his reviews seriously, more the opposite.

I don't think he expects everyone to take him seriously but I believe he is serious in what he says and personally I haven't really disagreed with a review he hs made yet and I find more truth in his reviews than in other "professional" reviewers like ign or gamespot

Edit: Shit, wrong topic, no reply for this thread D:

His critiques are usually accurate in content, but not in magnitude . . . which is what makes his cynical overblown style! Without it, he wouldn't be so popular.

Unless you like the button mashing ;)
Fix't. :P

I can honestly say that after 3-4 hours of playing the game (which is a generous amount by my standards), the combat failed to strike me as very 'deep' at all and infact really got on my balls in some segments. It's not bad, but for a game which is 90% combat it could've injected a little more... variety.

Oh well. Different strokes, I guess. *waits patiently for Ninja Gaiden 2 demo*

There's no button mashing at all. Well, you can, but that entirely misses the point of DMC. Did you investigate the exceed system at all? You can instantly rev after each hit, rather than going through the laborious charging. It requires plenty of practise and timing, but opens up a world of pain.

Failing to see the depth in a DMC4 doesn't mean it's not there - it means you didn't scratch the surface ;)

I found having to buy the vast majority of your moves was annoying. I had to leave after just getting up to playing as Dante, but I have the feeling his combat can be deeper, since you can switch "styles" and weapons as you fight.

I just enjoy smacking stuff about, and the combat can be just button-mashing if you like, but if you have all the move sets it can get more interesting.

Button mashing was a little extreme, but essentially you are pressing the same button to attack, just in a non-linear fashion. I didn't investigate the exceed system as I couldn't tally up enough points to invest in it before I had to return it (hireage). If a game doesn't grab me in the first few hours, it isn't going to grab me at all.

Like I said though, different strokes. I guess this is just a matter of... depth perception? :cheese:

... Sorry.

The DMC series is certainly not for everyone, but I personally loved DMC3 & can't wait for DMC4 PC.

You didn't rev Nero's sword?! You must have at least appreciated the Devil Bringer arm - that opened up a whole world of options.

I like Ninja Gaiden as much as the next guy, but it doesn't offer the creative combo madness that makes DMC kick ass.

To be fair in the context of this review, Yahtzee did say he liked the combat...
