ZOMBIE mod?

i think a zombie mod would be a great idea... and kinda ez to code.

The levels take place in urban areas, or rural areas. Wherever fighting hordes of zombies would happen.

You and your "team" can fall into several categories... my thoughts for total immersion is to make the team more of a band of survivors trying to ummm, survive. Or you can have a military team trying to maintain order in a situation of total chaos. Depending on the map, you could have different types of "teams".

Weapons:
as a "survivor" team, you can start out with chainsaws, baseball bats, 7 irons, and a pistol or 2. As you progress through the level, youll run into gunshops, or fallen military checkpoints, or watever and add to ur arsenal... but careful, ammo becomes scarce.
as the military team, your locked, stocked, and ready to rock, but dont expect it to be easy when your cut off and moving through city streets filled with the undead.

Gameplay:
here (if its possible) is where the gameplay differs from your normal online FPS. All the players are on one team. The other team is all bots. When you die, you die until your team dies, or makes it to a "safe" point. The computer should always outnumber you however, with a rolling respawn. That means they keep spawning in whatever area your in. With basic HL2 AI, and increased speed, and especially HP (something like 3 times normal, where the only place you can really kill is to shoot em in the head), it shouldnt be a walk in the park. Lets not forget, you wont have tons of ammo, nor can you "buy" more like in CS or other games. If you pick up a handgun, all you might get is 9 shots, or a full clip. And dont think you can run away easy too. Think of the zombies as always running on sprint, where you can only do it on shorter periods of time.

Level Design:
cities, sewers, your local neighborhood, your old school, or the mall. All that matters is that you are in close proximity with the living dead. Levels have a start point where you can organize, grab some starting weapons. The levels can have multiple routes, and even a few vehicles... LIKE A BUS! (How cool would it be to drive through zombies in a bus! even though its Dawn of Deadish... hehe) Your goal is to make it to a "safe point" like where other survivors are, or a military outpost, or a helicopter.

i dunno, thats my 2 cents on a mod idea.

There's quite a lot of zombie mods on the go, do a search through previous posts in this section and you should be able to find atleast two or three of them.

Just make sure it has fast zombies - The Dark Elf loves those!

sorry, had to plug it

Zomie team

there should be a zombie team...

zombies have unlimited sprint, they are hard as hell to kill, and u fight along with zombie bots.

u have a variety of slash and bite moves. And if u bite a human, their health goes down till they die, no saving yourself. If u die on the human team, you respawn as a zombie. Humans hafta pick up weapons as they go along. Golf clubs, baseball bats, hockey sticks, molotov cocktails. Eventually some guns. The humans hafta move from one point to another, a guantlet of zombies. Levels can continue into one another. Some have pick-up trucks or school buses. The humans will be whittled down and only a few survive. Your rank goes up the more times u survive. From mere survivor to ruler of the undead. Gotta use that sprint wisely, set up traps to kill as many zombies with the meager ammo u have.

fast zombies make the dark elf cry :p

make em slow, and lots of them :E:E:E

Hi waffles :p I came to plug us too...But 'eh...Well, anyhow. We'll have mostly slow zombies for ya elf :p

This idea sounds way too similar to the other zombie mods. Your best bet is to join one of the other ones, and once they have something working, encourage them to produce a game type that involves getting to safe zones.

zombie swarms?

*sees thousands of video cards melting*

Doesn't Brain Bread (HL1) have this type of gamemode though?

well, while waiting for other ppl to make this mod, you could always kill you zombie appetite by watching "dawn of the dead", but something tells me you already saw that....
:D

How bout something unique where you actually play as zombie on the hunt for flesh?

creative modelling and LOD controll will allow lots of zombie swarms to exist! Dark Elf is right, Fast zombies make baby Jesus cry!

ok come on

explain to me why a dead rotting zombie would be able to run faster then a person with muscles and adrineline and why would they alwasy sprint or if they do they should colapse eventually not out of exhaustion but sense even if you cant feel it muscles take a beating imagine running 15 miles without stop and not even out of breath but still running at 10, 12, mph you couldnt oyu would keel over it should be based on the shuan of the dead zombies only way to kill is sever brain damage a blow to the head or decapitation and if you dont know what i mean by shuan of the dead model zombie go see the movie

...or the ROMERO zombies. Zombies amble along using only the brain's most basic, primitive functions some of those being simple motor functions given to us at birth. The whole theory behind slow zombies is a more realistic one as 1.)as they are essentially walink dead, rigamortis would hinder muscle use and 2.) with only basic primal brain functions in tact, running the 100m sprint isnt going to be an easy task... To me running zombies just dont really make sense :)

BRrrraaaAAAAAAaaiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiinnnnnNNnnnnsssssssssssss :bonce:

If i were going to do a zombie mod, I would make the zombies move at a staggering walk, not slow as molasses, but not sprinting either. About the speed you would walk if you were stomping mad or pacing.

It would take 2 pistol shots to the head or 1 shot to the neck to take them out. (your basic motor functions are at the top of the neck, bottom of the skull) shooting out kneecaps or other leg joints should take out their means of effectively chasing you. Anything else and its merely having to damage the body to the point where it can no longer function. i.e. the scene in the movie akira where that guy gets machinegunned by like 6 guys.

Setting a zombie on fire will take a long time to kill it, but it is effectively blinded if the fire doesn't kill it. Explosvies also work well. As will a baseball bat over the head 2 or 3 times.

All players should have the option of packing a blowtorch. you won't be able to carry as much stuff because of it, but if you recieve a bite and cauterize it within lets say 3 seconds then you do not succumb to zombie fever. You take some damage, and a you scream like crazy alerting just about any zombie ion the area. but for the moment you will not be a zombie. This will not help against multiple bites. Alternatively the blowtorch can be used to light stuff on fire or deter small groups of zombies temporarily.

another idea would be for someone to be wearing makeshift armor. i.e. extra clothes, riot gear, football padding, etc. It will slow down your overall movement and jumping rate and limit your carrying ability a bit, however it will reduce the posibility of a bite getting through to your skin. This will not help much against being completely surrounded.

I'd include weapons like shotguns, pistols, bats, 2x4s. Axes, chainsaws, vehicles, homemade flamethrowers, blowtorches, knives, rifles, homemade or military explosves, and oter stuff like that.

no way again the most primitive instincts would be like a shambling angry stomp like that guy said and in 28 days later how did the things survive they didn't even eat any body

raibeies?

ok i found out that there a realistic zombies that would sprint and do crzy ass hit stuff but i also found out it's called raibies and people not just in the games or anything can acuttly go crazy and bite people and spread it exactly like te 28 days later zombies but nt projectile blood/vomit but also they only have like 24hrs to 48hrs to live so if you made that a game like reduce that by 2 or and make the minutes

to be honest I think svencoop2 is going to have this covered for all practical purposes.
