i think a zombie mod would be a great idea... and kinda ez to code.
The levels take place in urban areas, or rural areas. Wherever fighting hordes of zombies would happen.
You and your "team" can fall into several categories... my thoughts for total immersion is to make the team more of a band of survivors trying to ummm, survive. Or you can have a military team trying to maintain order in a situation of total chaos. Depending on the map, you could have different types of "teams".
Weapons:
as a "survivor" team, you can start out with chainsaws, baseball bats, 7 irons, and a pistol or 2. As you progress through the level, youll run into gunshops, or fallen military checkpoints, or watever and add to ur arsenal... but careful, ammo becomes scarce.
as the military team, your locked, stocked, and ready to rock, but dont expect it to be easy when your cut off and moving through city streets filled with the undead.
Gameplay:
here (if its possible) is where the gameplay differs from your normal online FPS. All the players are on one team. The other team is all bots. When you die, you die until your team dies, or makes it to a "safe" point. The computer should always outnumber you however, with a rolling respawn. That means they keep spawning in whatever area your in. With basic HL2 AI, and increased speed, and especially HP (something like 3 times normal, where the only place you can really kill is to shoot em in the head), it shouldnt be a walk in the park. Lets not forget, you wont have tons of ammo, nor can you "buy" more like in CS or other games. If you pick up a handgun, all you might get is 9 shots, or a full clip. And dont think you can run away easy too. Think of the zombies as always running on sprint, where you can only do it on shorter periods of time.
Level Design:
cities, sewers, your local neighborhood, your old school, or the mall. All that matters is that you are in close proximity with the living dead. Levels have a start point where you can organize, grab some starting weapons. The levels can have multiple routes, and even a few vehicles... LIKE A BUS! (How cool would it be to drive through zombies in a bus! even though its Dawn of Deadish... hehe) Your goal is to make it to a "safe point" like where other survivors are, or a military outpost, or a helicopter.
i dunno, thats my 2 cents on a mod idea.
