Oh my god, that's gold. I pull up my homepage, see "Sadaam Claims US tortured him" on the front in big bold letters, and run down to eat dinner.

I come back up, play a round of DoW, check out BBC, and in less than 120 minutes, the US decides that everybody will believe them, just one more time!

Are you going to believe a murdering dictator trying to save his own neck. Even if he was tortured he got what he deserved.

I have no reason to not believe him.

Now, my country on the other hand...

Even if he was tortured he got what he deserved.

I agree, but really, there is no point in lying about it.

As mommy said, lying will just get you into more trouble.

most readers would have a tough time deciding who is telling the truth: saddam or the US ..they're both lacking in the credibility dept

The US dosen't lie! D: My TV says they poon.

I wouldn't believe anything Saddam says. Besides, he could probably use a slapping around every once in a while.

i can believe in the US ****ing up a lot of things. but i SEVERELY doubt they are going to torture saddam hussien considering how much they don't want to **** up this court case. The torturing him is the last thing they'd want to do. Humiliation i can buy, but i don't think anyone tortured him.

Unless of course they allowed some Kurds to sneak into his cell for some revengeance for their people. But thats doubtful.

he claims beatings not torture ..I have no doubt he received beatings ..most americans believed he was behind 9/11 at one point or another ..pay back time I guess

If we did torture him, the bastard still deserved it. After torturing people in his own country, he tries to blame us for something. So what if he has rights - does that mean that the people HE tortured didn't? They were all still human and deserved the same rights... and he surely didn't offer them any chance.

(I really don't belong on the politics board... Don't expect me to say anything else here, I'm staying away.)

so in other words the people responsible for torturing the prisoners at abu gharib, guantanamo and every other US pow prison should be thrown in jail and tortured? ...why do some of you have such a hard time seeing the hypocrisy behind this all?

Agreed, how can you claim the moral high ground when you torture people for torturing people?

How exactly is torture defined? Just loud noise or bad food could be torture to some people. Just being lightly tapped by someone nearby could be blown out of proportion and seen as a beating. He says he was beaten - but to what extent? Was it enough to seriously be called torture?

sigh ...torture is defined as physical and pychological abuse ..the US parsed the treaty back and the 90's and didnt ratify the "pyschological abuse" part ...even though they had initially agreed to it decades ago. The red cross (the only independent body who examined the pows) have said they had been tortured. The photos of abused iraqis proves it, the fact that field operatives have been using methods directly from the KUBARK manual on torture and the fact that there's a huge incident list witnessed by fbi agents confirms that torture is in fact used ...not too mention the secret documents that detail the bush admin seeking a definition of torture to be used on pows BEFORE the war etc etc

Sigh... The immaturity of some folk.

YES I believe the US tortured him, YES I believe he's telling the truth.

But what amazes me is that instead of comming out and saying "Yes, we tortured him for vital information bla bla bla", they say, and I quote the article...

"That's preposturous!"

But on topic... no, I don't think he was tortured. I know the government here is capable of it, and have tortured other prisoners. But Saddam, nah.

I love how everyone who judges America doesn't even live in the goddamn country, yet relies on everything they see or hear on the internet and television :|.

Second, I would hold it past the US to torture him. I don't know what sources you've been looking at, but most Americans didn't believe Hussein had anything to do with 9/11. He never did anything to us, we have no reason to actually "torture" him. He isn't a communist after all :p.

oh and every last source I posted was directly from the US government ..not one is an editorial, a news item or speculation but rather government documents

I do believe the US is capable of torture, I don't think that ANYONE deserves torture, an eye for an eye is not how civilisation works.

However, I do see this as a last ditch attempt to gain sympathy - why was this not mentioned before? There is no corroberative evidence as of yet.

I live in the US. Have lived here for my entire life.

And no, he DIDN'T have anything to do with 9/11.

I find it funny that after 9/11, there was all this hype over killing bin laden. Then all of a sudden, without any sorta of transition...

"ZOMG RAEP SADAAM!".
