What is portal I keep hearing about it.

I keep hearing about some game called portal does it have to do with half life 2 episode 2 or 3? I don't know much about it.
 
I know but does it have anything to do with the half life series like is it part of it.

No it isn't. It's part of the Episode Two bundle along with Team Fortress 2, but without Portal, the bundle would be cheaper, hence Portal is not "free". Furthemore, it will be possible to buy Ep2, Portal and TF2 independent of each other.

Portal's exact place in the Half-Life storyline has not been confirmed for the sole reason that such a detail is likely the main twist in the story. We don't even know for certain when the game is set (It may be around the time of the first Half-Life, the second Half-Life or before/after both). Valve have hinted that the Portal gun may turn up in Episode Three or a later project, but that's hardly a certainty.

The player character is not "a Half-Life character" but an entirely new character. It even says in the article you link.
 
The character in Portal WILL be a Half-Life Character and we MUST buy EP2, TF2 and PTL together. That is what I have heard about.

That was my idea, too, anyway I don't really care, I'll buy the whole damn thing.

Well that still makes it a Half-Life character, but let's not go nitpicking here, the guy wanted to know something about portal, he has his info now I guess.
 
That would be cool if the portal gun were to show up in one of the half life 2 episodes it would really help in the battles.

Think about the rough non-portal-construstable environment. Think about all the crushes.
 
What if Gordon had it back in the original black mesa..... OMG...I would love to play with it there!!
 
I thought you could use the portal gun on anything rough land or smooth. Gordan did not have it back at black mesa could not be possible. I would like a real portal gun.
 
If it were in later Half-Life games as well it would work because it might only work on smooth objects. And from interviews and videos, we know you can;t shoot portals on shiny surfaces so valve could specify where you were allowed to use it.

Look at the Portal videos, pretty much everything is flat. The only rough surface is the red walls that you specificaly can't put a portal on.
 
I was playing ExitE and managed to create a portal on Kleiner's head...
 
You all have cool mods and I have a crap pc that will not play them no fair. BUT I will get a new one next month so I WILL be able to get that create whatever mod garrys mod v9 something that looks cool.

More like gently pointing out the poor guy's mistakes. At least he's not trolling like that roadtonowhere guy.

Anyway, Portal looks awesome. Although they might have the fiddle with certain bits of the game, judging by the faux-G-Mod Portal maps that were made a while back - simple logistical things, like it's easier just to walk along, shoot a hole in the ceiling at the exit, and shoot a hole in the wall, and walk through it and fall in the exit, than doing some complicated thing with momentum and velocity.

Oh BTW please get rid of the caps in you username and maybe change your name 'cause if I'm not mistaken Combine elite is a rank on these forums...just some rambling no attack or such...I think I'm in a bad mood today

I pm'd (private message) you how to do it. You can check your private messages after you're logged in. Normally you can open it by clicking on 'Private Messages' under your username in the upper-right corner...There you'll find the whole explanation about changing your name and such.
