Sort of wondering about the citadel

I was thinking for a while about the citadel. If it were to be built on Earth and not teleported here, and built with Earth materials, how long do you figure it would take to complete? I say maybe 10-15 years. What do you think?

maybe 30-50 years, that thing is HUGE and goes up into the clouds

I don't think it could be, to be honest. Something about the Citadel makes me think it's semi-alive...

I wouldn't say it's "semi-Alive", but I will admit that the possibility of a resonance cascade is highly--- I mean, I would say that most of those materials used are not Earth based, or undiscovered, so I'd say about 100-120 years.

I agree with Jintor in thinking that is is semi alive. Not necesarily in a living sense more in a sort of AI sense. Like humans or combine have been completely taken out of the loop.

I'd say it's impossible. Materials science ain't going to build a prehensile skyscraper anytime soon.

I would say that it would take about 100 years to complete with current building tech and materials. I remember they estimated it would take about 50 years to complete the Millennium tower which is approximately half the size of the citadel.

In RtB there was somekind of script and some dude called Samuel was telling things to you in train to C17, and he told that "Citadel just appeared from nowhere" or something like that. But that is old script, it was when C17 was not based in european city and you know, Missing Information stuff.

It's basically impossible, anyway. Something of that scale constructed of current earth materials would probably drive itself into the ground. (It's late, I REALLY don't want to do the math right now, but it feels right. So there! :P) Not to mention the shape of the citadel itself is hardly the best for stability.

(Space elevators don't count. They aren't reliant on a foundation.)

You know what limits the size of current skyscrapers?

Not the materials used or the people making it. It's the elevator space required.

Something like the citadel is very possible, it's just totally uneconomical as almost all of it would have be elevator shafts to enable a decent amount of people to travel up and down it for whatever purpose, be it commercial or residential.

Yes that and the fact that a building of that size would gobble up a huge amount of resources. It would require a global effort to build it.

and that said, would it be worth it to build it? (Unless you're a race of aliens that invades other planets, and teleports huge buildings into the center of large cities...)

How tall is the citadel meant to be?

Wikipedia said:
Citadels are the giant structures from which the Combine govern the Earth. One is located in City 17, and resembles a massive, metallic and largely featureless skyscraper, rising 3.072 kilometres (1.90894 miles) into the sky from ground level, and extending some distance underground as well.

Holy shit:eek: . I was sadly mistaking when I said that the Millennium Tower is half the size (850 meters).

But still the Galaxy Scraper from UT beats the hell out of the citadel(30 Km high). Beat that biatch!

Screw that concept, here's something that actually exists:

That is only 330m tall though and will probably never be finished in its current form.

It's not a matter of resources. It's a matter of support. Even the XSEED 4000 relies on a massive base to provide it's foundation. Not to mention the shape of the citadel.

Well, a large part of the citadel does appear to be stalker-transporters.

If economic treands get better in the future, and if we see technological advancements in elevators, plumbing, and other things that would be nessicary to make supertall buildings practicle, I guarrentee you'll start to see some of these pop up on the landscape. There are alot of people out there willing to fund and execute such projects

Such a skyscraper would be really beautiful...

First post, damn great!

I doubt that the Citadel was entirely constructed elsewhere, too many walkways that seem tailored to human use, not to mention the Stalker transports and the lines they run off of. These were constructed afterward when they knew enough about the inhabitants and environment of the planet to shape the structure accordingly and build weaponry that fits in with place.

With Earth Builders it won't get done. Lazy bastards

Did we forget about mexicans? Hispanic invasion? I say 30 seconds... Move all the hespanics up here, and build it as the new world trade center with an uncle sam, and a middle finger painted on the broad side facing afganistan... Ahh that would be great... :D

umm... yeah... what were we talking about?
