Sort of wondering about the citadel

I don't think it could be, to be honest. Something about the Citadel makes me think it's semi-alive...

I see what you mean, it seems like it can move in ways buildings shouldn't, stretch and feel around thus adjusting.

First post, damn great!

I doubt that the Citadel was entirely constructed elsewhere, too many walkways that seem tailored to human use, not to mention the Stalker transports and the lines they run off of. These were constructed afterward when they knew enough about the inhabitants and environment of the planet to shape the structure accordingly and build weaponry that fits in with place.

It was. They were dropped into cities and synths started puring out. The necessary adjustments were made after the Seven Hour War.

I hope you all realise, in the final chapter (Dark Energy) when the portal opens up, you can see other citdaels some even seem to be in construction, also, in the end of EP1... *SPOILER*...

... the citdael is teleported <back> to whereever the combine world is, or atleast, it tried to be teleported.

Those weren't Citadels; they were Portal relays. I imagine Breen's destination was a large area, surrounded by these very large, almost beacon like structures. The Citadel in Episode 1 isn't being teleported, they overloaded the Core and directed power to the anomaly forming above the structure, and when the Core exploded (destroying the Citadel) the information was sent through the portal, which was open only for a few seconds/minutes.

Must be some sort of staging area maybe where the invasion first came from.

It is an area large enough to teleport a Citadel, yes, and it is probably areas like that they send them from. Though, I'm not sure whether they'd build it there or what, they can't just carry one over. Remember, the Combine had to force the portal storms wider to get their Citadels through; they couldn't just teleport them without having some sort of connection. Whether it be the portal storms or a Combine signal on the other end.

that tells me that several other factors must also be present to go and gate somewhere like distance and a massive system of portals to send a large force. Probably not too many other places so ideal for the fight with Earth.

This does not have anything to do with the time it takes to build but I think the combine walls harvest the old cities and use there materials to build more citadels. The one that collapsed in City 17 might be harvested by walls to make another somewhere.I dont know just a possibility. There is also the metal and stuff and that I dont.

Well, considering not only that it's high (not that hard to build something large), but that it has some amazing technology in it (the core, for example), it would be very hard for humans. Probably, I'd say, more than 100 years, since humanity, at its point in the game, does not have that kind of technology, and will not have it for a while.
