Antlion Hive?

This may have been discussed already, but I think it would be amazing if Gordon does indeed fight an antlion queen, and thus is able to control an entire antlion hive to use against the combine forces, that would mean he could even use antlion gaurds
 
You make it sound like you want Ep.2 to be an RTS.:frown:

No one really said it was a big deal. Plus I think a few storyline theories shy in comparison to entirely changing the genre of a game in a series iconic to it's genre.

There is no antlion queen.

The myrmidon xenothera has a patriarchal society. ;) Thereforce, antlion KING.

Ok, but all joking aside, a Myrmidon queen would indeed be teh uber 1337 awshenz. And what would make it even better is if it was invulnerable to small-arms fire so you have to kill it in some interesting, "static" way. The only problem is that we wouldn't really have an idea on how it would look. Obviously it would bear even the slightest modicum of badass but a simply enlarged Myrmidon would seem uncreative.
 
They don't have any use for a queen, though. As I understand it there are specific antlions that have the task of breeding. To quote Alyx, "The antlions are in a frenzy because it's spawning season." Which means that the standard antlions you run into are either males/females in heat. (Not sure if they're males or females due to the fact that, despite being a patriarchal society, either one could be used as drones. In terran species that have matriarchal societies, it's generally female drones with males whose only purpose is to breed)

So there are no queens.
 
well it would be nice to have a "boss"-esque antlion thingy.

Well, what I was really aiming for was a "monarch-type boss" but I see what you mean.
 
who says there hasnt been a single decent thread in the whole week. i think the "post a pic of combine attacking yr town" is a cool thread.. of which ppl fed bullshit into it for quite some time..
 
I think it'd be something of a letdown if we went into the tunnels and emerged not having faced the thing that produces them. That like, totally goes against Gabes "Come on guys, you can't show the player a really big bomb and not let them blow it up."
 
There is no queen apparently they do something other than that method for generating more

Sounds an awful lot like a Real Time Strategy game.
And on topic I think it would be great if we could fight some big antlion ruler type thing, although if we didn't I honestly wouldn't care that much. I wanted a new antlion type and it seems the worker is different enough from a regular antlion to pull that off.
 
Well, there seem to be some strange honeycombs in that second game play trailer.

My theory is this:

Something lays eggs in honeycombs, like what bees and wasps do.

The eggs hatch into glowing larva.

Some larvae keep their glow when they metamorphose into the Worker, which is that new underground-only glowing antlion.

Others go further to become what I call Warriors, the ones that do all the fighting on the surface.

AS for the guards, I don't know. Maybe it's the last stage of metamorphosis after a Warrior? Designed to guard the young ones?

And what's laying all those eggs in the 1st place?

I kinda doubt it though. They've got those new black antlion guards, that might be the only new antlion we get to fight. It'd be largely disappointing if we never got to fight myrmidon rex. (Not just in Ep2, but at all...but where's a better place to fight him than the antlion caves?)
 
I think Valve (as said before) has gotten awfully lazy with comming up with unique designs, the antlions with the glowy crap and the new ant lion gaurds could have had a much more unique look.

But really think about it, how sweet was it to see what was laying all the alien eggs in Aliens that Queen was awesome, it would be just as cool to see something in the antlion hive

The Wikipedia articles are pretty good, but I'm biased because I edited them. :)

The one on the Combine is great, as is the City 17 one.
