US Navy = Nazis!!!

Google Earth is about to cost the U.S. Navy $600,000. Some intrepid Googlers discovered recently that a Navy base in southern California bears a striking resemblance to a swastika from the air. Apparently, no one noticed that the four-building complex, built in the late 1960s, looks like the offensive symbol from above until early last year. Local residents have lobbied the Navy for action ever since, and therefore the Navy has decided to drop $600K on landscaping and architectural alterations in order to camouflage the shape. At which point, it will look like ... a swastika covered in expensive shrubbery.

Discovered recently? A mate linked me to that years ago.

It's no accident, either. There's no way you could see an architects blueprints of that and not think 'This building looks just like a swastika!'

So the question is, why did they build it?

I also think it's hilarious it was built in the 60s and someone has only just noticed. It's not exactly inconspicuous.

she's been dead for over 20 years ..not that I havent heard that particular ageist crack > 100 times

and it's not old, at least the main part of the story, the "going to cost the Navy $600,000" part. Check the date on the article, it was posted yesterday

Are they seriously spending all that money on just landscaping? Why not just make one of the buildings have a differently shaped roof?

I found it in google earth, this is a little more zoomed out. You can see the other buildings are completely non antisemitic

Go anywhere in asia and the swastika has a completely different meaning where it is a symbol of peace.

The swastika was even common in pre christian europe amongst the romans, greeks and aincient celtish tribes for the same reason. near where i live in sheffield, UK theres a place on the moors called froggat edge and nearby theres a small stone circle dating back over a thousand years and on a couple of those stones there are swastika carvings. Dont think stone henge when i say stone circle though as the stones are a mere 1 foot or so tall and very weather beaten...

Everything has swastikas in it. I was just watching that 70's show today(been watching every single episode... never used to like the show, until I realized it's quite funny).

I'm on That 70's Musical, and they created a swastika. I don't know if it was knowingly, or unknowingly. Probably the former. heh.
