This is 2 4870s on 1 card. Supposed to compete with the GTX280. The bridging tech between the chips is supposed to get rid of 'micro-stutter' like other multi GPUs/SLI/Crossfire have. Have to have more in-depth reviews to see about that.

$500+
10.5 inches long. 8pin and 6 pin power PCIe needed. Each chip as the same specs as the 4870, they are not under clocked. Has 1GB for each chip (2x1GB).
"Today's article is merely a preview as R700s won't be officially launched for at least another month, but AMD wanted to unveil a bit of what it's cooking."

Dear lord...that thing can replace my optical sensors if it wanted.

As predicted, single PCB. AMD has a winner!

Damn the 88GT is freaking awesome.

[Edit] Even though the 280 beat the crap out of the 4870 by about 10FPS in Crysis, the 4870 is about $200.00 cheaper, which, I could trade for in a heartbeat.

Yes, although the 4870 is supposed to go against the 260 rather than 280. And the 4870 performs better and is cheaper than the 260. The fact that it can sometimes hit the 280's range is extremely impressive.

What I think is wack is if you bought a 9800GTX just a few months ago the 4870 X2 is a huge improvement and would be just $100 than what they paid for the 9800GTX (maybe a bit more). 135fps vs 60 fps in HL2 at a normal LCD resolution.

Wow! I knew in my guts AMD was in kitchen with Intel in the back-burner. There's noway AMD looses both battles; That would spell "The Chapter". ;)

Way to go AMD!! :bounce:

Beating a card by only 10 FPS doesn't quite qualify as beating the crap out of another card.

As for the 4870 X2, that's just obscene. There's really no game out there that warrants this kind of purchase.

Yet there are idiots who will purchase it for the bigger E-Pen0r.

You all know that there will be games out within a year that will need this kind of horsepower. It always happens.

Pay top dollar for it now, or wait a year or two for it to drop in price A LOT?

Toughy....

Beating you by 1fps means you got beaten the living crap out. Beating is a beating. Period.
I got 88GTx X2 now (Though they're old and tired), and before that, I had 6800GT (AGP) with a LanParty UL nf3. Why? Because, I have seen stuff you've never seen, been places you've never dreamed of (Well not quite), and if I wanted to upgrade, you can bet your socks; I'd do it again.
Games were meant to be played in full effect, anything short of that is just mediocre. Period.

Yet there are idiots who will purchase it for the bigger E-Pen0r.
And YET! there are those idiots who are always jealous. Don't be hating, meditate. :P

You can bet on that. Remember FEAR? That game Made us all upgrade; some with tuition money, and some with a whole year worth of allowance. Damn.

Bullet form because I'm too lazy to separate quote that.

  • Beating the crap out of [something] means you completely obliterate it. As in, if you put Mike Tyson at his prime against an 8 year old. If a card beats another card by 10 FPS - let alone 1 FPS - that means it barely beat the other card. That is, assuming we're talking mid-range performance and not low-end where cards get FPS in the teens. Hell, if your card outperformed mine by 1 FPS, I believe the correct word then is completely insignificant. As for the 'seen things I haven't seen / dreamed / whatever', well whatever helps you sleep at night mate. I recently switched to a 4850 at a bargain price - relative to probably whatever you paid earlier - and I doubt there's a setting you've seen that I haven't or can't.

  • Idiots being jealous? Uhh... I don't think there's any jealousy coming from our end. It's more like being rationale about spending our money and knowing how to find the sweet spot of price / performance. Dropping $500 / $600 on the latest video card is pretty much like pissing into the wind. All that money is spent on hypothetical games that, when they do arrive, will likely have mid-range cards released that runs those games in max or near max settings at half the price or less.

  • In a year's time you say? Well shit, I better go buy the latest card at obscene prices in order to properly enjoy those games! Because you know, there won't be cards released from now till then. Ever. Patience is a virtue my arse!!

I don't want to say anything else, because you got it smack dab sir.

OK AIM this is getting tedious.

I said "If I beat something by 1 frame, that thing is beaten the crap out, for me" and that's me. Your definition of "beating the crap out of something" might be different than mine and that's just fine, but if we benchmark with Crysis every single frame counts.

I don't know if you ever played Crysis, but 10 frame is a whole lot of frames and much more than your genetic renders so called "Fps". The average frames of Crysis is 20-30FPS on high setting and no AF for high-end systems, which is quite playable than other games; most games, 30FPS will cause you hiccups.
When two system are drawing 10 frames more than the other that's a beating in Crysis. So there you have my definition of "Beating the crap out of something" Other games you could be right, but in Crysis, 1 frame is a whole lot of frame. Top of the line 280 could only draw 51fps. Matter of fact, Version 1.1 of Crysis update suppose to tweak the game performance by 10 frames.
Oh! and by the way; Mike Tyson couldn't beat an 8yr old (With a right rendering heart and a good trainer) then and now. [Please don't try and argue this; I'm being sarcastic]. If you looked in the eyes of those so called "Opponents" you could see that they lost before they even came into the ring. That's why Buster Douglas (Who then no one ever heard of, and was The underdog of all underdogs) beat the crap out of him, not at the end but every single round.
You'll know what 10 frames could mean when you play Crysis.

As far as "idiots and their jealousy" That wasn't intended to you, but since you jumped right into it I will award you "The Jealous Idiots" badge, and offer you the appropriate comment:
I shop for the component, you shop for the price. I have a hobby, you have budged issue. I make money and give allowance, you make none and wait for allowances. You wait till the price comes down, I wait till a components is released. There is always upwind where you piss, I stand up top pissing downwind on you. Your current system cost you a 1000, mine 4000. You use the word "Overkill" I use the word "Satisfaction". I have a E-penis and you're acting like an E-Hole, with your raging jealousy. FEAR was hypothecial and is so Crysis. :P

Take Care.

I honestly lol'd, not because there's not a single derogatory point that's even applicable to me, but because you had to resort to it in the first place. You also managed to avoid most of my most of my argument, good job.

A. Your definition of beating the crap out of something is different from the rest of the English language users. You do have a point though, just because I think 'cell phone' means 'african safari' doesn't make me wrong right?

B. Your argument is perfect, let's all base card values on one single game that's known for it's perfect optimization and reasonable system requirements. **** logic and reasoning, who needs 'em when you've got ignorance right? You're right though, I run it at horrible settings: native resolution, Very High settings, DX10 and x16AF on an abysmal 50 FPS. If only I could get that extra 10 FPS for $300 from that 280...

C. "Jealous Idiot Badge" you say? Well **** me, that's an honor I've been waiting for my whole life. I obviously only shop with the focus on price and only price. Oh and **** looking up online reviews for the best combination of price / performance. Obviously building my own computer with money I earned myself isn't quite as lofty as buying your pre-made Dell / Alienware / HP / whatever the ****. If only I could've paid that extra $1,000 so I could get that [insert company] logo on my computer.

So is that what they call a salary now? An allowance? Well I'll be damned, I should tell my boss to update his vocabulary since he's been using outdated words.

---

Holy shit, you actually got a point right! My current computer does cost around $1,000... but you know what? My $900 computer runs virtually every game out at identical settings to your $4,000 one. Whoops, I probably shouldn't have said that. Life's a bitch huh? So you can take your alienware, your stupid ****ing e-penis, and shove it up your pretentious ass.

Take care.

Sarcasm for everything above the ---

Far from angry actually, I actually laughed out loud when you said I was pissing upwind and you was pissing down on me. It's been a while since I've come across someone with an elitist attitude of your caliber. I wasn't sure what was worse, the fact that my computer performs on par or better at 1/4th the price or the fact that you believed money buys class... [I[or whatever this sentence is referring to[/I] "Why? Because, I have seen stuff you've never seen, been places you've never dreamed of (Well not quite), and if I wanted to upgrade, you can bet your socks; I'd do it again."

This is way off topic now butI still stand by my points I mentioned earlier.

Cut it out you two. This thread is about the 4870 X2!

OK. All I'm saying is that: The 280 drew 51.5FPS and the 4870 39FPS, Which means, the 280 did outperform the 4870 by way of 20%. Or 51/39 in a Basketball game. or 2/0 in Football. That, in English, wherever you speak it, means: You got the kicked the **** out, Period.
Now, I don't know which English dictionary book you're looking at, but 20% does validate 4870 been the kick the crap out by 280. Ten frames may not look much when the winning card is drawing 100FPS and above, but when the winning card draws half of that, ten frames mean a whole lot.

As far as the pissing directions concern; I don't really care which way I piss. When a man has got to go (Buying what he wants) A man has to go. If the prices come down after I made my purchases, then **** it, lucky for you. I hate to wait for what I want. If that makes me an elitist with a big ego, fine I'm an American and I'm used to it. And as long as you respectfully accept the fact that you're a jealous idiot I'll settle for the elitism. I also have a Volvo. :P
I wasn't talking to you at the beginning, I was messing with CyberPitz, then you dived right into my war of words and my sarcasm, which you weren't part of to begin with, using bullet holes on me. How dare you. :P
Talking to me like you know my purchasing habit. I never used an OEM in my life, and my setup is in my Sig. And if you think your $1000 outperforms my $4000 Here's My 3DMark Score. Use it as wallpaper.

I think you and I owe Asus and apology for disrespecting him as an Admin and hijacking his thread. You can reply me but I'm out of this. ;)

Take care.
