We've been referring to the new rare cosmetic headgear as "hats" but IS THAT ACCURATE?

Clearly Hats

Are we to believe that helmets are simply a subset of hats? Telling a Soldier he better wear a hat to protect him from bullets, surely this is absurd!

==OR==

Clearly anything that rests on the top of the cranium is a hat regardless of its purpose or ability to withstand baseballs to the head, why the Engineers helmet is called a hardhat. To question this perfectly fine definition is nothing short of pedantic rabble-rousing!

Easily swayed masses cast your vote!

I am, or course, referring to this.

I'll have an opinion when Valve actually gives me one. :arms:

I think hats, when used in a broad sense, mean anything being designed to wear on the head. And the Valve picture emphasizes hats. And while helmets can be considered hats, hats aren't considered helmets.

So yes, I do think that 'hats' is a suitable name.

Helmet implies some sort of protective aspect. These helmets are mere hats, compared to helmets.

I still want Ushanka for Heavy and SS Officer cap for Medic, cowboy hat for an Engineer probably wouldn't work well.

You may get your wish... this was posted in another thread:

Second round of hats have already been spotted in the translation files:

"TF_Scout_Hat_2" "Socks cap"
"TF_Sniper_Hat_2" "Bucket Hat"
"TF_Soldier_Hat_2" "Officer Cap"
"TF_Demo_Hat_2" "Scottish Tam"
"TF_Medic_Hat_2" "Head Mirror"
"TF_Pyro_Hat_2" "Toque Blanche"
"TF_Heavy_Hat_2" "Russian Ushanka"
"TF_Engineer_Hat_2" "Welders Mask"
"TF_Spy_Hat_2" "Groucho Glasses"

Haha, a Bucket Hat would be awesome :D

Hommage to Ned Kelly.

lol they should have make a hate to replace the soldiers helmet with a pasta strainer!!!
ahahaha that would be funny

Demoman should have got a tam o'shanter or a balmoral.

That would be more in keeping with the Demo's character IMO. Giving him a big 'fro just because he's a nignog seems like a bit too lazy a stereotype...

EDIT: Just scrolled up and read the actual posts. '"TF_Demo_Hat_2" "Scottish Tam"', that's more like it.
EDIT2: 'Sorry to disappoint but those were confirmed to be faked.' :frown:

The moral of the story is not to ever read the thread because it will just confuse everything.

Did you just use a racial slur while calling the 'fro a sterotype?!?!? Wow... that's pretty low...

Using certain words, no matter what the context, makes you a racist.

Hat / helmet, I don't care as long as I get one. GIEF VALVE PL0X

If I directly quote what he said in telling the situation to someone else, I'm not a racist.

True - In this instance you are correct since the word he used is slang and not common vernacular. In most other instances, the compassionate thing to do is to say something like "n-word." That is, if you want to be compassionate... everyone has the freedom to be an ass.

The demoman has his afro as a hat. Wouldn't that actually be NOT a hat at all because he has actually taken it off?
