A friend forced me to jump into a BF42 game (I really wanted to kill them gunships in the prison, darnit!!!) a few minutes ago. My sound is super choppy now and the only change I've made to my system has been to flash my dvd firmware and to install HL2. Anybody else notice this problem? Any idea...
hmmm. I'm kind of a trial and error guy. If I had your DVD drive and problem, I'd DL the BX32, BX31, and BX06 files from the Nu Firmware page:

If it says the game is unavailable, it's apparently unavailable because the authentication servers are down at Valve. The game can't verify that you are using a registered copy, or something like that, so it won't start until it can check with Valve.... Not fun, but that's basically it.
I've gotten all the verified and subscription okays you have, but the game still conks out during startup just as before. I'm beginning to wonder if this is a conflict issue with something else on my computer...
I'm in the same boat you're in. To top it off, I actually had it working for a little while earlier today. I had these problems, then I didn't for an hour or two, then after I took a break to make a sandwich, they were back. For the life of me I can't figure out what's going on. Perhaps steam...
